NHRA Junior Drag
Racing League Western Conference Finals
July 6-10, 2010
Oahe Speedway was
well represented in the recently completed National Hot Rod
Association Western Conference Junior Drag Racing League
Finals, at Bandimere Speedway, located just outside Denver.
The Oahe Speedway
sent a four member team to Denver to compete in the 5 day
event.
Austin Mohr, of
Mitchell, 13 years old, lost in the first round of
preliminary competition on Thursday, Jul 8, rebounding
to a quarter final finish in the championship rounds on
Saturday, July 10. Mohr returns home with a $500
US Savings bond and a big trophy for his efforts.
Kendra Kimball,
competing in her first year of junior dragster competition,
lost in first round preliminaries on Thursday. Kimball
improved to a second round finish in the 14 year old
division, on Saturday.
Carly Ellingson,
of Rapid City, led the Oahe team, with a victory in the 15
year old championship round on Saturday. Ellingson,
running her Bar's Leaks sponsored '08 Visions Junior
Dragster, outclassed the field and took home $5000 in US
Savings Bonds for her win. In addition, she also
received a prized "Wally' , the official winners trophy of
the National Hot Rod Association.
Ellingson also ran
in the Luca/Hercules 7.90 Index race on Tuesday, attaining a
quarter final finish
Ellingson, and her
younger sister, Stevie, were honored to sing the
National Anthem during opening ceremonies.
James Morris, of
Pierre, went out in round two of the Lucas/Hercules 7.90
dash. He bettered his finish on Thursday, with a 4th
round finish. Championship day, in the 16-17 year old
division, saw Morris red light in the first round.
Morris is a past semifinal finisher in the 2008
championship finals.
