Oahe
Speedway Coca Cola/Budweiser Points Race #7
Oahe Speedway Coca
Cola/Budweiser Point Series racing resumed on
Sunday. In the 7th round of the Speedway's 2007
Super Pro class series, Pat Murphy, in his "Murphy's
Law" '85 Camaro, faced off against 2005 Oahe
Speedway Super Pro Champ, Terry Henrikson.
Henrikson, running a 2007 Landshark rear engine
dragster, could not overcome Murphy's head
start, in the Super Pro final. Murphy saved
the best for the semifinal round against Dale
Garber, of Pierre, when he unleashed a perfect .000
reaction time. A perfect reaction time means that
Murphy's Camaro was leaving the starting beams at
the exact moment the green light illuminated.
Any drag racer knows how difficult this feat is to
achieve. Pierre' s Joe Wolf , was sent
packing when Henrikson actually had a slower
reaction time, but was able to power by Wolf at the
finish line in the other semi final race.
The Pro
finals came down to 2006 Oahe Speedway champ, Ken
Standiford and Lyle Magorien, Pierre. Standiford,
Midland, padded his 2007 Speedway Pro points lead
with his win over Magorien. Randy Hirsch,
Pierre, faced off against Standiford, in the first
semi final. Hirsch drew the red light, handing the
race over to Standiford. Magorien got the best
of John DeMots, Lebanon, in the remaining semifinal
match.
Bike/Snowmobile contestants Chris Boom and Charles,
"Ninja Charlie", Snyder, squared off in the finals.
Boom, Pierre, left first, on the slower dial
in, but was overcome by Snyder, Belle Fourche, at
the finish line. Snyder was unopposed in the
semis, and Boom's semi final match with Allen Pope,
Pierre, was over at the start when Pope fouled.
In one of
the largest fields of Amsoil Sportsman racers at the
Speedway in 2007, Kyle Currier, Onida, bettered his
runner up finish from the last points race. Currier
took the win from Aberdeen's Brian Humann.
Humann gained the final on a bye run and Currier
reversed the decision on Pierre's Chip Campbell, in
the other semi final round. Campbell took the
final from Currier two weeks ago when
Currier's Mustang broke on the staring line.
Brennan
Gray, Pierre, continued his steady march toward the
points championship in the Beck Motors Street Trophy
final. Newcomer Shawn England, Pierre,
attempted to stop Gray, to no avail. Bert
Bogner, 2006 Street Trophy champ, who makes the long
tow from Oral , SD every race weekend, had a
very slow reaction time in his semifinal match with
Gray. Gray chased Bogner down to take the win.
England drew a bye in the other semi final.
In only
his second weekend of competition, Tyler Ehlers,
Pierre, took his '94 Camaro to the Snap-On Tools
sponsored High School Class win. James Rogers,
Agar, fell victim to Ehler's quicker reaction time.
Josh Anderson, Pierre was beaten by Rogers in the
semis , while Ehler's drew the bye.
James
Morris, Pierre, emerged as the winner in the Bank
West Junior Dragster finals over 2006 Speedway
Junior Dragster champ Shelby Magorien, Pierre.
Morris took the semi win over Fort Pierre's,
Kimberly Geuther. Saturday winner, Carly
Ellingson, Rapid City, fell to Magorien in the other
semi.
Chad Uhrig,
Pierre, took home the Gambler's cash when
Travis Falcon, Pierre, drew the red light in the
final. In an interesting semifinal match up,
Uhrig
raced his car's former owner, Rory Haar, Aberdeen.
In the heads race, Uhrig and Haar both dialed
identical 9.07 elapsed times. Haar was off his
game in his reaction time and was beaten by Uhrig at
the stripe. Falcon beat Dar Hofer, Onida
in their semifinal match.
Next races
at Oahe Speedway will contested on Aug 18-19, with the
Pioneer Garage of Highmore and Pierre, sponsored
Oahe Speedway Class race with the National
Dragster Challenge races on Saturday. In
addition, round #4 of the Dales A-1 Transmission
Super Class will be run on Saturday
The 8th race in the Coca Cola/Budweiser Points
Series will be run on Sunday.
