Points Races Head Toward Close Finishes at Oahe
Speedway
The points
battle in almost all of Oahe Speedway's 2007
Budweiser/Coca Cola Points Series
head toward some pretty close finishes. With 7
of 10 races in the books, the series heads into the
8th round this coming weekend. Some past champions
are in the running to repeat, while others are left
mired in the pack.
In Oahe's
first ever, Super Class series, sponsored by Dale's
A-1 Transmission, Mitchell's Cary Shonley leads the
points. Close behind, Grant Pederson, Aurora, trails
by little over two round wins. Shonley,
coming off a great run at the NHRA Lucas Oil
Nationals, at Brainerd last weekend, will be at Oahe
Speedway this coming weekend for the 4th of 5 rounds
in the series. Pederson is expected to attend
along with third place Rick Meier, New Underwood,
with his potent Super Street Corvette.
In Oahe
Speedway Budweiser/Coca Cola Super Pro action, Curt
Hieb, Chamberlain, holds a narrow margin over 2005
Super Pro champ, Terry Henrikson, Rapid City.
Hieb leads by only 103 points going into the 8th
round this weekend. Pierre's Dale Garber, sits
within striking distance in third.
Ken
Standiford, Midland, holds a commanding Pro class
lead over Tommy Dale Vines, Eagle Butte and
Gettysburg's Andy Wright. Standiford is the
defending Pro champion, with Wright moving up a
class in 2007 after having a stranglehold on the
Sportsman's championship at Oahe Speedway in 2005
and 2006. Second place is in the balance with
Vines and Wright separated by only 4 points.
2007
Bike/Snowmobile champ, Charles "Ninja" Snyder, Belle
Fourche and Chris Boom, Pierre, sit pretty much where
they did a year ago. Snyder does not hold the
commanding lead he enjoyed last year heading
toward the season's conclusion. Boom,
riding his Arctic Cat sled, is a little more than a
round win behind Snyder. Wade Johnson, Rapid
City, currently holding
third
place in NHRA Division 6 Sportsman Motorcycle
standings, sits a few rounds back in third
place.
With
Andy Wright moving up to Pro in 2007,
Amsoil Sportsman class will see a new champion crowned.
Kyle Currier, Onida, leads Derek Gray, Pierre by
just over 300 points going into this weekend's
action. Ken Kimball, Rapid City and
Aberdeen's Brian Humann, hold down 3rd and 4th
respectively. Once again, 3rd and 4th place
are only separated by 3 points, in another tight
race.
Beck
Motors Street
Trophy's Brennan Gray, Pierre, holds a fairly tight
grip on the points lead over 2006 champ, Bert Bogner
of Oral. In another squeaker, Mike Moldenhauer,
Jud, ND, is within one point of Bogner.
Snap-on High School action finds Josh Anderson,
Pierre, number one, with Highmore's' Roman Bast, and 2006 champion Carl Morris trailing.
BankWest
Junior Dragster 2006 Champion, James Morris looks to
repeat as class champion. Morris, Pierre,
holds a sizable lead over Shelby Magorien.
Magorien, Pierre, would like to better her 2006
runner up finish to Morris. Rookie Stepahnie
Holm, Pierre, and seasoned veteran, at age 13,
Carly Ellingson, Rapid City, are currently tied in
third.
Racing
action resumes at Oahe Speedway, located 15 miles
north of Pierre, on Saturday, August 18th and
19th, with the National Dragster Challenge,
in conjunction with regular Speedway classes
sponsored by Pioneer Garage, Inc. of Pierre,
Highmore and Miller. The 4th round of the
Dales A-1 Transmission Super Class Series will
also be run on Saturday.
Sunday
will see the points races heat up again.
Saturday's races get underway at 1pm, with qualifying
and final eliminations at 5pm. Sunday's action
begins at 9am, with qualifying and finals
starting at 1pm.
