Jeremy Demers accepts the winner's check from Oahe Speedway owner, Milton Morris, following his victory in Saturday's Dales A-1 Super Class Series race.

On an overcast, humid Saturday, Demers took on all comers in the speedway's Dales A-1 Super Class Series race.  Demers, in the finals, squared off against Grant Pederson, Brookings,  SD, who is currently holding second place in the five race series.  In the heads up final. Pederson went under his 9.01 second dial in an attempt to catch the fleeting Demers.  A lightning quick .017 reaction time allowed Demers to outrun the hard charging Pederson for the win.  In mowing mowing down his competition, the young Iowan, had 4 of 5 quickest reaction times of eliminations. Reaction time, in drag racing, is the difference between the time the green light flashes on and the time that the front wheels of the car

actually move.

Jeremy Demers, second from right, celebrates his second victory of the weekend at Oahe Speedway, near Pierre SD, with (l-r) his dad, Larry, Dan Varn, Council Bluffs, mom Cindy, and Deb Varn, Council Bluffs.

On Sunday, Demers was eliminated in the second round of Super Pro eliminator.  In losing, in the early rounds of the day, the team was eligible to enter a last chance Gamblers race.  First and second round losers in all speedway classes are allowed to enter a single elimination race to determine the Gambler of the day.  Demers, once again, moved quickly through the field to take the win.  Facing off against Dustin Hofhenke, Huron, South Dakota, Demers ran right on his dial in for the victory.

An engine builder by trade, the 18 year old, Carroll, IA, resident drives the family owned 1999 Devis rear engine dragster. The NAPA Auto Parts sponsored race car utilizes a Larry Demers built, 582 cubic inch, 970 horse power Chevy engine.   Jeremy's parents, Larry and Cindy, accompanied the winning driver on the trip to South Dakota's newest drag racing facility. Oahe Speedway is the first purpose built drag strip constructed in South Dakota in over 40 years.
