Oahe
Speedway Coca Cola/Budweiser Points Race#5
Oahe Speedway Coca
Cola/Budweiser Point Series racing resumed on
Sunday. In the 5th round of the Speedway's 2007
Super Pro class series, Curt Hieb of Chamberlain
topped Rodney Hopf, Ramona, SD. Hieb's '85
Camaro was out first in the final utilizing a quick
.034 reaction time to drive away from Hopf's Ford
powered '65 Comet.
In
the semifinal round, Hopf was unopposed and Hieb got
around Rick Meier, Box Elder.
Tommy Dale Vines picked up his first Pro Class win
at Oahe Speedway. Vines, Eagle Butte, defeated Dustin
Strong, O'Neill, NE for the popular win. Vines
498 cubic inch big block Camaro proved too much for
Strong to handle in his '70 Dodge Challenger.
2005 and 2006 Sportsman Champion, Andy Wright, has
moved up a class this year and fell victim to Strong
in the semis when he broke out. Ken Standiford
suffered his second semifinal loss of the weekend in
his red-light give away to Vines.
2006 Oahe Speedway
Motorcycle Class Champion, Charles "Ninja Charlie" Snyder, Selfridge, ND, defeated fellow North Dakotan,
Laura Moldenhauer in their final round match-up.
Snyder dispatched Pierre's, Jason Kotz, in the
semifinal. Moldenhauer
moved to the final on a single run.
Sportsman
competition saw a large field eliminated down
to a final between Ken Kimball and Derek Gray.
Kimball, Rapid City, won the race at the starting
line when Gray drew the red light. Kyle
Currier, Onida, fell victim to Grey in semifinal
action. Doug Percy, Winner, was unable to
advance when he drew a red light against Kimball.
Percy won the Trophy Shootout in Saturday's
competition.
Kerri
Morris topped all comers in the Street Trophy class.
Brennan Gray was unable to better his dad's runner
up finish in Sportsman when Morris's .014 reaction
time was too much to overcome in the finals. Morris
singled into the finals and Gray defeated Timber
Lakes' Ron Winterberg in the semis.
High
School series racing paired off Roman Bast,
Highmore, and Carl Morris, Pierre. Bast, left
first on a slower dial in and was chased down by a
quicker reaction time from Morris. Morris
crossed the finish line ahead of Bast for the win.
Josh Anderson was defeated by Morris in one of the
closest races of the day in the semis. A mere
one thousandth of a second
separated
the two at the finish line. Bast singled into
the final.
James
Morris, the third member of the winning Morris
family on Sunday, passed Toni Vetter,
Gettysburg in the Junior Dragster final.
Stephanie Holm, Pierre, and Carly Ellingson,
Rapid City fell in the semis.
Next races
at Oahe Speedway will contested on July 21-22 with
the Lynn's Dakotamart sponsored
Shootout races on Saturday.
In
addition,
the third of a five race series, Dales A-1
Transmission Super Class, will be run on
Saturday.
Grant Pederson, Brookings leads the current point
standings with Mitchell's Cary Shonley, within
striking distance.
