Dales A-1 Transmission Super Class Race #3

and

Lynn's  Dakotamart Shootouts

 

On a warm weekend of racing, Rick Meier,  Black Hawk and Cary Shonley, Mitchell, met in the finals of the 3rd race in the Dales A-1 Transmission Super Class Series.  Meier, on a tear, with great reaction times all day, beat Shonley to the stripe.  Meier's perfect reaction time in the quarter finals set up a semifinal match with Sioux Falls' Roland Rang.  Rang's .001 reaction time was negated when he ran under his dial in in the double breakout round.  Meier went under by a lesser amount to take the win.  Shonley  met Randy Nygaard, Watertown, in the other semifinal race, with Shonley emerging as the winner in another double break out round. Shonley bypassed Grant Pederson, Brookings, to take the series points lead.  Race #4 in the series will be run on August 18.

 

In the Lynn's Dakotamart Box Shootout, Monty Frerichs, Black Hawk, topped Curt Hieb, Chamberlain, in a battle of Camaros.  Frerichs, driving David Rae's '73 Camaro, beat Terry Henrikson, Rapid City ,in the semifinal when Henrickson fouled on the starting line.  Hieb, driving an immaculate '85 Camaro, had a bye run in the other semifinal match.

 

Lynn's Dakotamart No Box Shootout, a class where electronic ignition devices are not allowed, Shannon DePoy, Eagle Butte, got by Paula Duncan, Midland, in her '96 Cougar.  DePoy, in his '67 Camaro ran Chris Boom in the semis, winning that round when Boom and his '01 Arctic Cat snowmobile redlighted.  Duncan passed through to the final on a bye run in the semifinal.

 

Travis Falcon, with his second win this season, outran Charles Snyder, Belle Fourche,in the Lynn's Dakotamart Trophy Shootout final.  Falcon. Pierre, met up with  Jason Ehlers, Pierre,  in a double breakout run.  Falcon ran under his dial in by a lesser amount , taking the win. Snyder advanced to the final on his '84 Kawasaki 1100 bike when Ron Winterberg, Timber Lake,  fouled at the starting line.

 

9 year old Kimberlee Geuther, Fort Pierre,  was victorious over Rapid City's Carly Ellingson in the Lynn's Dakotamart Junior Dragster final.  Ellingson met James Morris in the semifinal round and won easily when Morris redlit at the starting line.  Geuther reached the finals on a bye run. 

 

Next races at Oahe Speedway will contested on Aug 4-5 with Shootout races on Saturday and round #7 of the Coca Cola/Budweiser Point Series on Sunday.  

 

If you are looking for a family activity , then Oahe Speedway is the place to be!  The racing excitement covers all ages, including junior dragsters with drivers as young as eight years old.  Families are encouraged to drive the short distance to Oahe Speedway and watch the races together.  Oahe Speedway is located 14 miles north of Pierre on SD Hwy.1804.  Access to the pits is included with the general admission fee, where everyone has the opportunity to visit with the racers and see their cars up close.  Admission fees are $8 for adults, $5 for teens (13-17 years of age) and free to kids under the age of 12.
