Oahe Speedway Coca Cola/Budweiser Points Race#6

 

Oahe Speedway Coca Cola/Budweiser Point Series Race # 6 was run off on Sunday.  John Hines, Pierre, beat Dale Garber in the final when Garber  ran under his dial in.  In the semi final, Chamberlain's,  Curt Hieb, suffered a similar fate against Hines.  Garber was unopposed, in his "Super Goob's" Racing '73 Dodge Challenger, in his semifinal run. 

 

In a battle for bragging rights of the Eagle Butte area,  it was a sure thing that a Camaro was going to win the Pro Class final.  Shannon DePoy, fresh off the No Box Shootout win on Saturday, paired off against Tommy Dale Vines.  DePoy used a rapid  .008 reaction time to best his friend from Eagle Butte. Depoy, Lantry, running a '67 Camaro got around Ken Standiford, Midland, in their semifinal match. Vines, driving his '68 Camaro, had a bye run in the semis.

 

In the Motorcycle/Snowmobile final, Jud ND resident, Laura Moldenhauer  won over Aberdeen's Alex Alsleben. Alsleben was unable to hold his '79 Kawasaki in the staring line beams and fouled. Moldenhauer picked up her second win this season on her '07 Suzuki GSXR.  Allen Pope, Pierre, was too quick on the staring line, drawing the red light against Alsleben in the semis and Moldenhauer used a quicker reaction time to beat Rapid City's, Wade Johnson in the other semi match up

 

Amsoil Sportsman class winner, Chip Campbell, picked up his first win of the season against Onida's Kyle Currier.  Currier's Mustang broke on the staring line in the final.   Campbell's bye run in the semis set up the final with Currier, who got around Blunt's,  Alyssa Colson in their semifinal race.

 

The Beck Motor Street Trophy final was over at the staring line when Duane Soper, Gettysburg, drew the red light against Alex Lindholm, Pierre.  Lindholm, driving his' 68 AMX ,  beat Brennan Gray in the semis. Soper drew the bye in the semifinals in his '68 Shelby GT 500. 

 

The Snap-On sponsored High School final came down to Roman Bast, Highmore, and Alyssa Colson, Blunt.  In a rare red light, Colson gave up the win to Bast.  Bast was the winner over points leader, Josh Anderson, in their semifinal run. Colson drew the bye run in recording the quickest reaction time in the quarterfinals.

 

Carly Ellingson, Rapid City, bested James Morris in the Bankwest Junior Dragster finals. In the heads up final race,  Ellingson's margin of victory was .009 seconds (approximately 13 inches) at the finish line.   Morris , Pierre, won over Kimberlee Geuther ,Fort Pierre,  when Geuther broke out in the semifinal and Stephanie Holm, Pierre, suffered a similar fate against Ellingson.

 

Seventeen contestants battled for the Gambler's title with Joe Wolf emerging as the winner. Bert Bogner, Oral, was unable to hold off the hard charging Wolf, Pierre, in the final.  Wolf gained the final on a bye run in the semis and Bogner was victorious over Steve Boke, Gettysburg.

 

Next races at Oahe Speedway will contested on Aug 4-5 with the Oahe Speedway sponsored Shootout races on Saturday.  The 7th race in the Coca Cola/Budweiser Points Series will be run on Sunday.

 

If you are looking for a family activity , then Oahe Speedway is the place to be!  The racing excitement covers all ages, including junior dragsters with drivers as young as eight years old.  Families are encouraged to drive the short distance to Oahe Speedway and watch the races together.  Oahe Speedway is located 14 miles north of Pierre on SD Hwy.1804.  Access to the pits is included with the general admission fee, where everyone has the opportunity to visit with the racers and see their cars up close.  Admission fees are $8 for adults, $5 for teens (13-17 years of age) and free to kids under the age of 12.
