Dewey County Racers
Battle at Oahe Speedway
The
bragging rights to Dewey County's drag racing
supremacy came down to a final pair on Sunday at
Oahe Speedway , near Pierre. Dewey County
rivals, Shannon Depoy, Lantry, and Tommy Dale Vines,
Eagle Butte, met in the Speedway's Pro class
final. The pair had mowed through an 18 car
field to meet in the closing round. Vines
quick reaction times through eliminations set up the
final against DePoy. Ironically, Depoy pulled
off his best reaction time of the day against Vines,
while Vines' poorest reaction time of the day put
him in the runner up spot.

Shannon Depoy (L) , and
Tommy Dale Vines (R), met in the Pro class finals at
Oahe Speedway last weekend, with Depoy emerging the
victor
Both Vines
and Depoy have been on a tear recently at Oahe.
Vines took top honors in the Pro class on Jul 8 and
Depoy won the No Box Shootout in Saturday's
action as well as Sunday's Pro final.
Vines,
currently 3rd in the Oahe Speedway Coca
Cola/Budweiser Pro Point Series, runs an immaculate
'68 Camaro, powered by 489 cubic inch big block
Chevy. DePoy, son of drag racing legend, Perry
DePoy, runs a '68 Camaro with a small block 302
cubic inch Chevy under the hood. Depoy is
sponsored by DePoy Farms and Wood Road repair.
Depoy currently sits 7th in points while 2006 Oahe
Speedway Pro champ, Perry DePoy, holds on to 9th
place. The DePoys passed on a points race
earlier this season to stay home and get their crops
planted. As Shannon said, " farming supports
the racing, the racing doesn't support the farm."
After this past weekend, the trip to Oahe
Speedway paid off.
Next races
at Oahe Speedway, located 15 mile north of Pierre in
SD Hwy 1804 will be run Aug 4-5. Vines and DePoy
will be there to continue the battle.
