Oahe Speedway Coca-Cola/Budweiser Points Series Race
#10
Heading
into the final Coca-Cola/Budweiser points race of
the 2007 season, several class championships were
too close to call.
One
champion had already been crowned on September 1.
Cary Shonley, Mitchell, claimed the Dales A-1
Transmission Super Class Series. Shonley added the
title to his resume when he passed Grant Pederson,
Brookings, in the standings. Despite going out
in the semifinals, Shonley amassed enough points to
garner the overall title. Pederson bypassed
the final race to attend the NHRA Mac Tools U.S.
Nationals in Indianapolis, IN. Rick Meier, Box
Elder; Dustin Long, Mitchell; and Jeremy Demers,
Carroll, IA finished out the top 5.
The
following recap of Monday's racing focuses on the
10th and final points race. An additional
press release will cover final points and
championship results
Coca-Cola/Budweiser Super Pro competition found
Saturday's big winner back in in the winner's circle
on Labor Day. Joe Smith, Emporia KS, defeated
Jeff Friman, Pierre, in a race that found Friman
trying to chase down Smith. Smith, with a a
slower dial in, utilized a lightning quick .002
reaction time and an ET only .011 off his dial to
force Friman's hand. Friman, a little slow on
his reaction time, pushed a bit too hard and ran
under his dial in, breaking out, giving Smith his
third win of the weekend. Friman dispatched Chad
Uhrig, Pierre, in the semis and Smith singled in the
balance of the round.
Pro
Eliminator, sponsored by Coca-Cola/Budweiser, winner
Bill Bogner, Belle Fourche, bested Erik Hagberg,
Spencer, NE. Bogner, a frequent class
racer on the regional trail, used the weekend
to prep for the upcoming Aaron Koppien Memorial
Stock/Super Stock Combo on September 22, at
Oahe Speedway. Hagberg defeated Dustin Hoffhenke,
Huron, in the semi finals. Chris Huse, Onida,
fouled at the starting line against Bogner in their
semifinal match.

Speedway points runner up, Chris Boom, Pierre, take
the final race of the season. Boom defeated
Ray Horsley, Pierre, in a rematch of Sunday's final.

won over Wade Johnson, Rapid City .
Another
large field of Amsoil Sportsman class racers
narrowed to Ken Kimball, Rapid City and Justin
Tjeerdsma, Pierre, driving Eric Serbousek's Camaro.
Tjeerdsma left the staring line a little soon, with
Kimball picking up the win. Kyle Currier was
outrun by Kimball and Paula Duncan, Midland,
broke out
against Tjeerdsma in the semis.
Duane
Soper, Gettysburg, and Brennan Gray, Pierre, squared
off in the Beck Motors Street Trophy finals.
Gray, looking for the advantage was too quick on the
starting line and gave the race to Soper on the
foul. Kerri Morris, Pierre, lost to Soper in
the semis and Gray was unopposed.

Sonnie Boke, Gettysburg. Anderson used a great
.036 reaction time to defeat Boke. Tyler

Sunday with a win on Monday in the BankWest
Junior Dragster finals. James Morris, Pierre,
playing catch up on a faster dial in, broke
out in the final against Magorien. Magorien,
2006 Oahe Speedway Junior Dragster champ, ran .003
seconds over her dial in in the semis to defeat
Haley Hopf, Ramona. Kimberlee Geuther, Fort
Pierre, fell victim to Morris in the other semi
final.
