In the
Race of Champions, the 19 member tracks of Division
5 are invited to send their individual class
champions to compete for top honors. Chris
Boom of Pierre, emerged as the champion in the
Bike/Snowmobile division. Boom bested a field
of 19 other track champions to take the trophy.
In the final , Boom met Curtis Spracklin,
representing Rolling Thunder Dragstrip, Pacific
Junction, IA. Spracklin, attempted to chase
down Boom to no avail. Boom, leaving first, on
a slower dial in, took his '01 Arctic Cat sled
to the winners circle. In taking the win,
Boom became the first to ever win the
Bike/Snowmobile Race of Champions on a sled.

Sean
Billet, Pierre, brought home the Best Appearing
Super Pro trophy. In a field of nearly 200
race cars, Billet's bright orange '79 Malibu, stood
out in the judges eyes as the winner. Billet,
owner of Auto Body Concepts, Pierre, saw his
creative talents pay off. The crowd pleasing,
wheelstanding Malibu, proved it has the "go" as well
as the "show". In an interesting
sidelight, another Pierre racer, Dale Garber's '73
Dodge Challenger, nicknamed, "Kryptonite", was among
the top 3 in the category along with Billet.
In a field
of nearly 575 race cars, Boom, Billet and Garber
proved that Oahe Speedway can compete on a level
with any other race track in the region.
