Oahe Speedway, South Dakota's
only National Hot Rod Association sanctioned quarter mile
drag strip, located 14 miles north of Pierre, SD, announces
its 2012 season schedule.
The season kicks off with the 8th Annual Fanfest at the
Pierre Mall, on March 24 and 25. Racing action will
begin on April 21 and 22, with the annual Chassis
Inspection ad Test and Tune sessions on Saturday and
Shootout races on Sunday.

Cooks up Thanksgiving Feast
Scott and Jodi Driscoll, owners
of Watertown Ford Chrysler, and part of our Oahe Speedway
racing family, hosted Watertown area residents for a
Thanksgiving feast last Thursday. The 11th annual
celebtation served over 450 guests.

The H&H Repair / Chandler Auto Glass entry in the 11th
Annual Christmas Parade of Lights took second place honors
on Friday evening. The collaborative effort between
Ann Hirsch, Tauna Wolf, Vicki Uhrig and Marcia Graves,
featured a match race between Snoopy and Charlie Brown.
While the outcome of the race is not known, the float was a
winner all along the parade route. Plans are already
underway for another award winning entry in 2012.

Marilyn England Passes
Nov 21, 2011
Marilyn England, 82, passed away Nov 21, 2011, at Pierre,
SD. Mrs. England was the mother of Curt England and
grandmother of Shawn England.
The entire Oahe Speedway mourns the loss along with the
England family.
Services will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to Countryside Hospice or a
charity of your choice.

The Oahe Speedway 2011 Awards
Ceremony and
Banquet will be held at the Ramkota Convention Centre,
in Pierre, on Saturday, November 5, 2011. A social
hour will begin at 5pm, followed by dinner at 6pm. The
dinner, featuring roast sirloin of beef and pork loin, will
be served buffet style. The cost of the meal will be $25.00
per person, with kids 12 and under $10.00.
Recognition of the top finishers, in the 2011 Coca Cola
Points Series, will begin at 645pm.
Invitations are in the mail. Please RSVP, with
payment, by October 29, 2011.

The seventh annual running of the NHRA Division 5 National
Open, proved to be one of the best ever at Oahe Speedway.
NHRA Super Comp
Dale Garber, of Pierre, SD, put together the best reaction
time average of Super Comp eliminator with a quick .0107
average through four rounds. Saving his worst reaction
time of the day, .015, for the final, Garber was matched by
Ken Zeller's identical .015 at the start. The
difference was a .004 advantage to Garber at the stripe, on
a double breakout run. Zeller, from Smithville, MO,
ran 8.997 on his 9.00. Super Comp index, with Garber closer
at 8.981. Garber defended his 2010 title.
Zeller added Oahe Speedway as the74th track he has competed
on in his racing career. Garber had a close call in
round two against Cal Belden, of Aberdeen, SD,
giving up .002 at the start, crossing the stripe .013 ahead
of Belden to take the win. The margin of victory, .011,
put Garber 2.6 feet ahead of Belden at the line.
NHRA Super Gas
An All-Canadian final saw first time visitor, Bill
Cawsey, of Regina, Saskatchewan, and Tom Patterson, of
Lorette, Manitoba, face off for the Super Gas title.
Cawsey, running his '09 Mustang, left first on Patterson,
gaining .013 at the starting line, on their 10.00 heads up
index. Cawsey's advantage went away at the stripe,
breaking out by just .002 . Patterson, on his second
visit to Oahe, put together an .022 package to take the win.
Patterson ran 10.000 in his first round bye. Cawsey
and Dan Mohr, of Mitchell, SD, had a dead-on 10.00 match in
round two, with Mohr breaking out by .030, advancing Cawsey.
Ron Starkey, of Rapid City, SD, also ran 10.000 against a
breaking out Dennis White, of Brandon, Manitoba, in round
two.
NHRA Super
Street
Dennis McBride, of Ainsworth, NE, made his annual trip to
the National Open the same as the last. McBride popped
off a rapid .008 reaction time, and coupled that with an
11.015 run on the 11.00 Super Street index, to take
the win over Jeff Crooks, of Brandon, Manitoba. Crooks
gave up .012 at the start and ran over the Super
Street 11.00
index, at 11.20, in his loss. Mc Bride defeated
Bobi Legner, of Pierre, SD, on their double break out
pairing in round one.
NHRA Stock/Super Stock Combo
Doug Engels, of Watertown, SD, pulled off his second victory
of the weekend, winning the Stock/Super Combo, on
Sunday. Coming off a win, in Saturday's
Koppien-Christensen Memorial Combo, Engels picked up his
third win in the last two National Open weekends at Oahe
Speedway. Engels worked his way through the
field, defeating Mike Corbett 's F/S '65 Chevelle, in
round one. Corbett broke out against Engel's SS/GM
'57 Corvette. Engels advanced through round two and three,
on red lights by Shannon DePoy, E/S, of Lantry, SD and Bryan
Dixon, F/SA, of Mitchell, SD. Tracy
Lindeman, K/SA, of Ethan ran .002 over his dial in round
one, to win over an off pace Rick Wessels, of Belle
Fourche, SD. Lindeman went on to take the win over
2010 Combo winner, Curt Hieb, E/SA, of Chamberlain, SD, on
Hieb's red light. Lindeman would take the bye run in
the quarters.
Semi final action saw Engels chase down Brent Kopetjka,
EF/S, of Norfolk, NE, taking the win on Kopetjka's breakout.
Dean Feiock, of, Pierre, SD, running his M/SA '81 Malibu,
saw an .026 starting line advantage evaporate at the finish
line, breaking out by .004 against Lindeman.
The final found only Engels making the call. Lindeman
withdrew with mechanical difficulties.
Coca Cola Super Pro
Defending Coca Cola Super Pro champion, Curt Humann, of
Pierre, SD, took the win over a red lighting Cal Belden, of
Aberdeen, SD, in the final. Humann and Belden
both advanced to the final round following red lights by
their opponents in the semis. Dan Mohr, of
Mitchell, SD, left .002 too soon on Belden and Roger Hopf,
Saturday's Box Shootout winner, tripped the starting beam a
scant .005 second too early against Humann. Number one
qualifying Dale Garber, of Pierre, SD, was unable to make it
two for the day, breaking out by .005 against Jason Ehlers,
also of Pierre, in the Coca Cola Super Pro Points Series
round one. Ehlers would have been hard to beat, with a
super quick .001 reaction time.
Super Pro Points Champion, Rick Meier
2011 Coca Cola Super Series Points Champion, Rick Meier, of
Rapid City, SD, went out in round one, against Ken
Standiford of Midland, SD. Meier, running David Rae's
Super Pro Camaro, broke out against Standiford. Meier,
having left his wounded '84 Corvette ride at home, was able
to hold on to his points lead, taking the his second
Oahe Speedway Coca Cola Super Pro Points championship.
Meier last won the series in 2009, in the same year he won
the Dale's A-1 Super Series title. Curt Humann, based
on his final round win, moved into the runner-up position in
the finale for the ten race series.

Randy Nixon,
Huron, SD, 2010 Coca Cola Pro Champion,
met up with
Curt England in the Pro final, with Nixon taking the win.
England, with the starting line advantage, ran off his dial
in, giving up the win at the stripe. England scored the best
ET's of eliminations with a swift .005 against Don O'Connor,
of Fort Pierre, SD, in round one, and putting together
a .011 package against Randy Compson, of Valley
City ND, in round three. Marcia Graves, of Pierre,
number one qualifier, lost on a red light in round two,
against Bubba Romanyshyn, of Belfield, ND. Romanyshyn
would advance to the fourth round, losing to Nixon, on a red
light start.
Pro Points Champion, Randy Hirsch
2011 Pro Points Champion Randy Hirsch, of Pierre, SD, put
together a late season charge to take the
championship. Hirsch finished just 99 points
ahead of runners-up Randy Nixon, and Joe Harry, of Ferney,
SD. Both Harry and Nixon tallied 2728 points to tie
for the second spot.
Coca Cola Dakota Motor Sports LLC Bike
David Tibert, of
Grand Forks, ND, and Charles Snyder, of Selfridge, ND,
paired off for the Coca
Cola Dakota
Motor Sports LLC Bike final with Tibert getting a little bit
lucky. Following a very slow start Tibert chased
down Snyder, winning on Snyder's breakout at the finish.
Snyder, defending Bike champion, defeated Chris Boom, number
one qualifier, in
the first round. Boom, of Pierre, SD,
tossed away his chances at the starting line, drawing the
red light. Tibert benefitted from breakouts by
opponents in rounds one and two.

Chris Boom returns as the 2011 Coca Cola Dakota Motor Sports
LLC Bike champion. Boom had previously won the Bike
championship in 2007 and 2008.
Charles Snyder took the runner up position, following his
2010 championship as well as winning the class in 2006.
Tibert, a first year contender, placed third.

Cola Sportsman
Jay Tjeerdsma, of Springfield, SD, coming off a semifinal
finish in the No Box Shootout and the Dragging for
Pinks win on Saturday, continued his winning ways on Sunday.
Travis Falcon, of Pierre, SD, despite a better reaction
time, broke out against Tjeerdsma in the Coca Cola Sportsman
final. Gettysburg, SD could not come out of the semis
with a win. Tjeerdsma sent Toni Vetter, of Gettysburg,
to the trailer. Fellow Gettysburg resident, Sonnie
Boke, suffered a similar fate against Falcon.
Tjeerdsma dispatched number one qualifier, Eric Serbousek,
of Pierre, in the third round.
Coca Cola
Sportsman Champion, Travis Falcon
Since 2008, if your last name wasn't Falcon, you may not have been
near the top of the Coca Cola Sportsman ranks. Travis
Falcon, 2008 and 2009 champion, fell off pace in 2010, with
Carl Morris, of Pierre, taking the championship.
Falcon returns as champion for 2011. Karen
England, of Pierre, capitalized when Falcon faltered
and vice versa for the 2011 series. England fell
just over one round win short of catching Falcon.
Falcon pretty much sealed the deal with a third round win
over England on Sunday afternoon. Jay Tjeerdsma, based
on his Sunday performance and a first round loss by
contender, Ann Hirsch, of Pierre, secured a third place
series finish, relegating Hirsch to fourth place.

Street Trophy
Mark McCue, of Spearfish, SD, took the final points race of
the season in the 2011 Coca Cola Street Trophy class.
Jacob Rissman, of Ashton, SD driving a vintage '95
Barracuda, broke out in the final against McCue. McCue
ensured that Duane Soper, of Gettysburg, SD, would not win
his 6th points race of the 2011 season, defeating the points
leader in round one. Both divers broke out, with Soper
running further under his dial in than McCue.

Street Trophy Champion, Duane Soper
Duane Soper served notice, early on in the 2011 Coca Cola
Street Trophy Points Series, that he was a serious
contender. Winning four of the first five 2011 points
races, there was little doubt that he would be in contention
for his first Street Trophy championship. 2009
Champion, Ron Winterberg, of Timber Lake, SD finished in the
runner up position. McCue will be recorded as the third
place finisher in the ten race series.
Coca Cola Snap
On High School
Toni Vetter ,in her final year of Coca Cola Snap On High
School competition, won the final race of the
2011 series. James Morris, of Pierre, off the line
first, ran further off his dial in, to lose the final to
Vetter. Morris beat number one qualifier, Stephanie
Holm, of Pierre, in the first round. Vetter used a
better reaction time and closer to dial run to defeat Ashley
Holm, 0f Pierre, in round one.

Series champion, surged in the middle to late season, to
take the championship
Getting off to a slow start, Stephanie won three in a row in August
and early September.
Stephanie's sister, Ashley, finished just over three
rounds behind, securing second place. Toni Vetter
placed third.
Coca Cola BankWest Junior Dragster Major
Tucker Driscoll, of Watertown, SD, won the Coca Cola
BankWest Junior Dragster Major Final, over Austin Mohr, of
Mitchell, SD. Driscoll pulled off a quick .009
reaction time, heading Mohr all the way to the win.
Mohr defeated number one qualifier, Kimberlee Geuther, of
Fort Pierre, SD, in round one.

Cola BankWest Junior Dragster Major Champion
Carly Jo Ellingson
Carly Jo Ellingson, of Rapid City, SD, took her first Coca
Cola BankWest Junior Major Points Series title at Oahe
Speedway. The many time champion at Douglas
Motorsports Park, in Douglas, WY, and at Sturgis Dragway, in
Sturgis, SD, finally will receive her first Oahe
Speedway championship. Going into the final rounds of
competition, on Sunday, there was the mathematical
possibility that Ellingson, and contender Austin Mohr, could
actually tie for the championship. Mohr moved closer
with a win over Kimberlee Geuther, of Fort Pierre, and with
Driscoll's win over a breaking out Ellingson,
Mohr was within a win of tying for the championship.
Driscoll put together the better package to defeat Mohr in
the final. In Mohr's loss, Ellingson won the title
outright with Mohr taking second place, and Geuther
finishing the season in third place. Tucker Driscoll rounds
out the top four.
Coca Cola Oahe Speedway Junior Dragster Minor
Jake Miller, of Fort Pierre, SD, qualified number one, had
to get by 2010 Coca Cola Junior Minor Champion
Jonathan Huse, and run older brother, Noah, in the final to
get the win. Noah utilized better reaction times and
closer to dial in runs to advance to the final. In the
end, a red light got the best of the elder Miller, affording
brother Jake the win.

Champion, Jonathan Huse
Jonathan Huse, of Onida, SD, repeats as the 2011 Coca Cola
Oahe Speedway Junior Minor champion. Huse started off
slowly, in the early season and started contending in late
June. The balance of the season found Jonathan at or
near the top of the standings, and by late August, it became
apparent the he would repeat as champion. Noah Miller,
of Fort Pierre, is the runner up with Jonathan Geuther
settling in to third place.

Oahe Speedway Door
Car Record Upped
Rick Schmidt, of Dickinson ND, had owned the Oahe Speedway
ET and MPH door car records for nearly three years, before
fellow North Dakotan, Rays Fuchs, took the MPH record away
earlier this summer. Fuchs snared the fastest door car pass,
at 189.9 MPH on August 14, eclipsing Schmidt's June 2008
record by nearly 3 MPH. Schmidt proceeded to obliterate both
the ET and MPH records, ripping off a 6.781
pass at 211.16 MPH. Schmidt had held
the ET record, 7.368, since 2008.
Stock Eliminator National Record Set
Oahe Speedway claimed a new Stock Eliminator National Record
on Saturday.
Ron Mattson, of Cloquet, MN, put together a 11.316 run on
his altitude adjusted 12.30 index, in his H/SA '72 Camaro
setting the H/SA National records in the process

Oahe Speedway is primed for all out assaults on the NHRA
Stock and Super Stock National Record books this weekend.
The Speedway currently holds two national records.
Wayne Denklau, of Wayne, NE, set both ends of the SS/K
record, with a 10.20 second ET, and 128.11 MPH, during the
2010 HNRA National Open. Gene Bichlmeier, of Norfolk,
NE, set the GT/I records at 9.92 and 132.67 MPH. Both
competitors will return this weekend. The
Speedway also held the
G/SA record set by Monty Jones, of Osceola, NE, set during
the 2009 National Open. Jones set the ET mark at 10.89
and the MPH mark at 120.23. The G/SA was recently
reset to an established minimum. 11.50. National
records are allowed to stand for two years before being
recalculated.
Qualifying for all classes will begin at 10:00 am on
Saturday and Sunday morning. Eliminations will kick off at
2pm, on Saturday, with the 5th annual
Koppien-Christensen Memorial Stock/Super Stock Combo.

as part of the day's racing action.

The weather was fantastic, the racing even better for Labor
Day Weekend 2011 at the Speedway. As the racing season
winds down, it is pretty obvious that there several of the
Coca Cola Point Series titles are still up for grabs.
Coca Cola Points Race #3
Saturday, Sept 03
Defending Coca Cola Super Pro champ, Curt Humann, of Pierre,
came from the middle of the qualifying ladder, to take the
win over Terry Henrikson, of Rapid City. In the double
break out final, both drivers ran identical 8.716 e.t.'s, a
fairly rare occurrence. Humann had dialed 8.19, while Henrikson dialed 8.21. Humann takes
the win, running closer to his dial. Jason
Ehlers, of Pierre, qualified number one, with a
perfect light, fouled away his chances against Humann, in
round one.
Randy Compson, of Valley City, ND, made his long haul pay
off, taking his immaculate '68 'Cuda all the way to the Coca
cola Pro win. Roger Hanson, of Pierre, survived five
rounds of competition, before meeting Compson in the final.
In the Mopar vs. Chevy final, Compson ran closer to his dial
to take the win. David Enfield, of Sharon, ND,
qualifying number one, lost to Chris Odde, of Aberdeen, in
the second round. Roger Hanson stopped Odde in round
three. Larry Iversen, of Pierre, pulled off only
the second perfect run in Oahe Speedway's seven years of
competition, in round one. A perfect light and a
dead-on 12.290 on a 12.29 dial, places him in an elite club,
with David Rae , of Gillette, WY., as the only other known
racer to accomplish the feat at Oahe.
Current Coca Cola Dakota Motor Sports LLC Bike points
leader, Chris Boom, of Pierre, fell victim to Don Gurnon, of
Huron, in the final. Gurnon, qualified number one,
defeated 2010 Coca Cola Points champion, Charles Snyder, of
Selfridge, ND , in round one. Boom took a round one
win over Schaun Schnathorst, of Huron. Schnathorst, running
his '06 HD Destroyer, pushed a bit too hard chasing down
Boom's Arctic Cat, breaking out by .018, at the finish line.
Five rounds of competition saw Doug Percy, of Winner, take
the win in Coca Cola Sportsman action. Travis Falcon,
of Pierre, broke out by a bunch at the stripe, tossing the
win over to Percy. Brian Brady, of Pierre, trailered
number one qualifier, Jeri Vines, of Eagle Butte, in round
one. Brady drew the bye in round two, taking a win in
round three , over Brian Wingert, of Pierre. Brady's
day was finished in round four , breaking out against
Falcon.
Coca Cola Street Trophy came down to Mark McCue, of
Spearfish and former champion Ron Winterberg, of Timber
Lake. McCue took the win at the starting line, when
Winterberg fouled away his chances. Donnie
Durenberger, of Dayton, MN, qualifying number one with a
quick .010, in his .03 Tahoe, withdrew from competition
prior to round one.
Stephanie Holm, of Pierre, with only two more races of High
School eligibility, made the best of her Labor Day weekend
break from college, taking the Coca Cola Snap On High School
win, over Taryn Colson, of Blunt. Colson went red at
the line by .115 seconds. Colson took out number one
qualifier, Ashley Holm. of Pierre, in round one.
Josh Mueller, of Bismarck, returned to Oahe Speedway for the
first time in several years. Mueller, moving up from
the Junior Dragster ranks, brought a great looking '87 Monte
Carlo to the fight, losing to another former Junior Dragster
standout, James Morris, of Pierre, in round one.
Kimberlee Geuther, of Fort Pierre, was crowned the 2011
Proseal Inc Junior Drag Racing League Challenge Major
champ, with a victory over Austin Mohr, of Mitchell.
Despite nearly identical reaction times, the win came at the
stripe, with Mohr breaking out. Geuther collected her
first "Wally" for the victory.
In a Geuther family double-up, Jonathan Geuther, took
home his first "Wally", to match sister Kimberlee's
accomplishment. Geuther defeated Hunter Monson, of
Groton, in the Proseal Inc Junior Drag Racing League
Challenge Minor final. Jake Miller, of Fort Pierre,
qualified number one, losing to Monson, in round one.
Monson faced Jake's twin brother, Alec, in the semis, taking
the win over the red lighting Miller.

Sunday, Sept 04
Sunday dawned as one of the nicest race days of the 2011
race season. With mild temperatures, very little
wind, and a well prepped track, the racing action didn't
take long to heat up the day.
Chad Uhrig started to pick up performance all day, pushing
his '98 Mullis to progressively faster runs, saving his
quickest for the final, against Cal Belden, of Aberdeen.
Both drivers broke out in the Coca Cola Super Pro final,
with Belden taking the starting line advantage, but tossing
that away with a bit too much stripe. First time Visitor,
Diane Knight, of Regina, SK, CN, pushed her Knight Racing
'65 Barracuda to the number one qualifying spot, with a
super quick .001 reaction time. In addition, Jason
Ehlers, of Pierre, and Dan Mohr, of Mitchell, scored .001
reaction times in qualifying. The Knight's made the
tow, in preparation for their return later this month, to
compete in the 7th Annual Division 5 National Open.
Knight lost to Curt Humann, of Pierre, in round two.
Coca Cola Pro saw 36 racers take the green in round
one. In the end, only Randy Hirsch, of Pierre, and
Todd Casper, of Lake Preston, remained standing.
Hirsch took a starting line advantage to the victory over
Casper, with a .012 margin of victory, by just over 29
inches at the finish line. Shannon Depoy, of Lantry,
qualified number one, with a perfect light, fell off
on his reaction time in round one, losing to Curt Hieb, of
Chamberlain, on Hieb's .012 hole shot win. DePoy ran a
dead on 11.400 on his 11.40 dial, but tossed a way the
victory with an uncharacteristic .082 reaction time, in
round one.
Rob Klinger, of Rapid City, who his first Coca Cola
Dakota Motor Sports LLC final of the year, over fellow West
River racer, Wes Miles, of Spearfish. Klinger took a
better reaction time and a closer to dial in to the victory.
Chris Boom, Saturday's winner, qualifying number one, met up
with Miles in the semi's, drawing the red bulb at the start.
Jeri Vines, of Eagle Butte, faced off against Joe Trusty, of
Rapid City, for the Coca Cola Sportsman trophy. Vines
had the starting line advantage by .001 seconds and ran
closer to her dial, to take the win. Jay Tjeerdsma, of
Springfield, eliminated number one qualifier, Travis Olson,
of Bath, in the second round.
Duane Soper, of Gettysburg, nearly took home another Coca
Cola Street Trophy win, but for the fact that Joe McCarthy,
of Newport NE saw it differently. McCarthy made his
first 2011 visit to Oahe a good one, winning on a better
package over Soper. Soper had qualified in the
number one spot.
Stephanie Holm, once again, took the Coca Cola Snap On High
School win. On a tear this past weekend, Holm defeated
Josh Mueller, of Bismarck, in the final. Mueller
qualified number one in the field. Ashley Holm was a
bit too anxious to beat up on big sis in the first round,
leaving a bit too soon, sending Stephanie into round two.
Kimberlee Geuther, another kid on a hot streak, qualified
number one, and went on to take the Coca Cola BankWest
Junior Major win. Geuther defeated current points
leader Carly Jo Ellingson, of Rapid City, in the final.
Ellingson had a great .008 reaction time in her semifinal
bye.
Hunter Monson, of Groton, bettered his Saturday runner up
finish, to take the win over Jonathan Huse, of Onida, in the
Coca Cola Oahe Speedway Junior Minor final. Huse tried to
chase down Monson, breaking out in the effort. Blade
Olson, of Bath, in only his second day of competition, went
all the way to the semis, losing to eventual runner up Huse.
Along the way, Olson won over number one qualifier Jake
Miller, of Fort Pierre, in round two.

Labor Day 2011
Monday, Sept 05
With a great bunch of racers in the pits, Labor Day 2011
would shape up to be a great day of close racing.
In his second final of the weekend, Chad Uhrig, of Pierre,
took on Cary Shonley, of Mitchell in the Coca Cola Super Pro
Final. Shonley, returning from a forced "retirement",
due to shoulder surgery, popped off a better reaction time,
but ran off his dial, in the final against Uhrig.
Uhrig put together an .022 package over Shonley's .036, for
the win. The margin of victory, at the stripe, was
just over 3.4 feet for Uhrig. Richard Ripley, of Rush
City MN, turned back number one qualifier, Curt Humann, of
Pierre, in round one. Cal Belden, of Aberdeen, nailed the
tree, with a perfect light, in round two. Shonley
was ready for Belden in round three with a .001 reaction
time to Belden's .036.
Perry Ankrum, of Pierre, took one last ride in his '63 Nova,
and made it a memorable one. Ankrum, running the
car for the last time before turning over the keys to Todd
Herman, celebrated the sale with a win, over Chris Odde
of Aberdeen, in the Coca Cola Pro final. Ankrum worked
his way through five rounds of competition, to meet Odde's
super clean Pro Street '79 Nova, in the final.
Odde, after a great .002 reaction time in a round four bye
run, saved his slowest reaction time of the day, for the
final. Ankrum, leaving first, on the slower dial, was
able to hold off the hard charging Odde, for the win.
Don O'Connor, of Fort Pierre, pushed his D&M Speed Shop
Malibu to the number one qualifying slot, losing to Todd
Casper, of Lake Preston, in round two.
Chris Boom, of Pierre, added to his Coca Cola Dakota Motor
Sports LLC Points Series total, taking the win over second
place Charles Snyder, of Selfridge, ND. Travis
Mullner, of Sioux Falls, was the number one qualifier,
losing to Snyder, in round one. David Tibert, of
Grand Forks, ND advance out of round one, when Rob Klinger
was unable to start his '10 Ninja ZX. Tibert would
foul away his chance at beating Boom in the second round.
Brian Brady, of Pierre, and Angel Pope, of Rapid City,
paired off in the Coca Cola Sportsman final, with Brady
taking the win. Pope fouled a the start, affording
Brady his first Sportsman victory of the 2011 season.
Brady ensured that Saturday's winner, Doug Percy, would not
double up, by sending Percy to the trailer in round two.
Number one qualifier, Toni Vetter, of Gettysburg, lost a
double break out, heads-up match, against close
friend, Travis Falcon, of Pierre, in round two.
By his own admission, Charles Serbousek,
claims that the last trophy he won is older than his '72
Duster. He added to his trophy case, on Monday, taking
the Coca Cola Street Trophy win, over Duane Soper, of
Gettysburg. Serbousek, of Pierre, left first,
with Soper having to wait nearly 2.5 second for his green
light. Soper got a little impatient and turned on the
red bulb. A win by either driver would have been
greeted by cheers, but one has to admit that we all
may have been pulling for Charles and his blue Duster with
the vintage NHRA decal...
In a three for three weekend, Stephanie Holm, went to her
third final of the weekend, this time against Toni Vetter,
of Gettysburg. Vetter prevailed, denying Holm her
third Coca Cola Snap On High School win of the weekend.
Ashley Holm was the number one qualifier.
Carly Ellingson, of Rapid City, qualified number one and
took that to the Coca Cola BankWest Junior Major final
against Austin Mohr, of Mitchell. Ellingson snared the
better reaction time, in the heads-up final, taking the
double breakout win.
The Miller twins, Jake and Alec, of Fort Pierre met in the
Coca Cola Oahe Speedway Junior Minor final, with Jake taking
the bragging rights home. Jake took out number one
qualifier, Dragr Monson, of Groton, in the second round.
Monson broke out by .001 seconds, at the stripe.
The Gamblers final was won by Derek Johnson, of Cheyenne,
WY. Johnson defeated David Wyum, of West Fargo, ND. on
a breakout by the North Dakota driver.
Jonathan Geuther, of Fort Pierre, emerged as the winner in
the Junior Gamblers final. Geuther took the win on a
red light by Kendra Kimball, of Rapid City.
Dale Garber Tops 200 MPH
Monday, September 5, 2011
202.11 MPH
Dale Garber, of Pierre, pushed his '08 Undercover BBC rear
engine dragster to 202.11 MPH on Monday afternoon.
Garber had set a personal best at 199.89 MPH earlier this
summer. Garber had prepped his car Sunday evening for
a record run, but was pushed out of the staging lanes
following a lengthy track clean up.

Labor Day Weekend at Oahe Speedway
offers 5 days of race related activities, culminating on
Labor Day, as the final qualifying day for those race teams
vying for positions on the 2011 Oahe Speedway Summit Racing
ET Finals Team. While Mondays racing action is not the
final points race of the season, it will be the last race
before the ET Finals, scheduled for September 16-18, in
Brainerd MN. Weather played havoc on the Speedway's
early season events, forcing the completion of the 10th and
final race of the 2011 Coca Cola Points Series on September
25th.

on July 30, 2011. The photo walk allowed photography
enthusiasts Keith Hemmelman and Tony Tibbs unlimited access
to Oahe Speedway's NHRA Drag Racing experience. While
Coppess has visited the Speedway in the past, his fellow
photographers had not shot drag racing before.

Door Car MPH Record

Ray Fuchs, of Bowman, ND, has tapped on the door so many
times in the past, but finally made the grand entrance on
Sunday. Fuchs, driving the Fuchs Family Racing '67
Camaro ripped off a mid-day, 189.91 MPH pass to set the Door
Car record. A straight-as-an-arrow pass in the blown
540 CI, Chevy powered, muscle car, pushed the previous
record up just under 2 MPH. Rick Schmidt, of
Dickinson, ND, had held the previous MPH record, 187.93,
since June 2008. Fuchs was unable to snag the ET
record, still held by Schmidt, at 7.376 seconds in the
quarter mile.

Saturday, Aug 13
Dale Garber, of Pierre, returned
to the winner's circle on Saturday, defeating Chad Uhrig, of
Pierre in the Box Shootout final. Uhrig tossed away
the win at the starting line, going red by just .003
seconds. Number one qualifying Cal Belden, of
Aberdeen, also became a bit impatient at the starting
line in the second round, leaving .005 seconds too soon
giving the victory to Rick Meier, of Rapid City.
Meier went to the third round, pairing off with Uhrig.
Both drivers went well under their respective dial ins, with
Uhrig coming closer to his 8.20 dial at 8.918.
The No Box final came down to Curt Hieb, of Chamberlain, and
Ann Hirsch, of Pierre. Hieb watched the first leaving
Hirsch light the red bulb in the final. Bob Swan, of
Belle Fourche, qualifying number one, fell victim to Hirsch
in round one. Swan, like Super Pro's Cal Belden, saw
the red light come on in his lane. Marty Compson, of
Pierre, a die hard Mopar racer, jumped in Taryn Colson's
Monte Carlo for the day, and lasted until the quarterfinals.
In a 12.55 dial in, heads up match, with Hirsch, Compson ran
through the traps at 12.577 seconds with Hirsch closing at
12.578 seconds. The difference came at the starting
line, with Hirsch grabbing a .051 reaction time to Compson's
.151.
Doug Percy, of Winner, took the Trophy Shootout title over
Ray Royer, of Rapid City. Percy used a quicker
reaction time to overcome the hard charging West River
driver. Percy ran only .001 second over his dial in to
defeat number one qualifier, Jay Tjeerdsma, of Springfield,
in the quarterfinals. First year competitor, Karen
Hines, of Pierre, fouled away her chances at her first
final, red lighting against Royer in the semis.
Austin Mohr, of Mitchell, went further under his dial in,
than his opponent, Carly Ellingson, of Rapid City, in the
Junior Shootout final Both drivers have met countless
times this season. Ellingson took her number one
qualifying effort into the final, grabbed the quicker
reaction time, and the trophy for the win. Mohr,
qualifying second, had the bye in the semis, with Ellingson
getting around number three qualifier, Jonathan Geuther, of
Fort Pierre, when Geuther broke out at the stripe.
Nostalgia Pro One went to number one qualifier, Ray
Fuchs , of Bowman, ND. Fuchs snared a better
reaction time over Bubba Romanyshyn, of Belfield, ND.
Romanyshyn, running a blown small block Chevy, front engine
dragster, laid down some of the best burnouts of the
weekend. Jon Kostelecky, of Dickinson, ND, lost to
Fuchs in the semis.
Nostalgia Pro Two winner, John Scott DeMotts, of Lebanon,
qualifying number two, met up with number one qualifier,
David Rae, of Gillette, WY in the final. Rae was
unable to capitalize on his qualifying position, drawing the
bright red bulb at the start. Ron Starkey, of Rapid
City, suffered a similar fate in the semis against DeMotts.
Josh Johnson, Belfield, ND, brought his '69 blown Dart to
the final against Jeri Vines of Eagle Butte, in her '74
Nova. Johnson pulled the better reaction time and
chased down Vines for the win. Vines kept her
composure in the first round while waiting for Tyler Ehlers,
of Pierre. Ehlers, qualified number one, locked up the
front brakes on his dad's '67 Cougar during his burnout.
Several attempts were made to free the brakes, to no avail.
Vines popped off the best reaction time of the class, a
great .008, on her competition bye, into the second round.
Ann Hirsch may have been denied a victory in the No Box
final, and she was determined to take no prisoners in the
Nostalgia Gas final. In her second final, in less than
15 minutes, Hirsch saw green at the start and was never
headed. Bill Seppanen, of Watertown, running a near
period correct '55 Chevy , was unable to repeat as Gas
champion. Seppanen won the 2010 final. Seppanen
turned back Ken Branine, of Harrold in the semis, with
Hirsch sending Duane Soper, of Gettysburg to the trailer in
the balance of the round.
Trent Trusty, of Rapid City, with a great .019 reaction time
was unable to hold off hard charging Bob Watkins, of
Rapid City in the Nostalgia Street final. Trusty,
running the epitome of "run what ya brung", a 49 Ford Custom
4-door cruiser, trying to hold off Watkins '65 Coronet
wagon, could only watch Watkins fill his rear view mirror
with the fast closing grocery getter. Duane Soper, of
Gettysburg, also doubling up eliminators, qualified number
one and lost to Trusty, in the semis.

Sunday, August 14
Rick Meier,
of Rapid City, turned back
fellow Rapid Citian, Ron Starkey, for the Coca Cola Super
Pro trophy, on Sunday. Meier left a super quick .011
reaction time for the second leaving Starkey to contemplate.
Starkey was unable to overcome the difference, and was
unable to catch Meier. Starkey, with a great .007
reaction time qualified fifth He was able to
better his reaction time to .004 in rounds one and two, with
another wicked quick .005 in the semis. Unfortunately,
his luck ran out in the final, pulling off his worst
reaction time of the day against Meier. Meier met
number one qualifier, Dan Mohr, of Mitchell, in the semis.
Joe Harry, of Ferney, had to go five rounds in Coca Cola
Pro, to secure his win over Randy Nixon, of Huron.
Harry unleashed a quick .009 reaction time in the final
against the red lighting Nixon. Harry defeated
Steve Boke, of Gettysburg, in round one with another rapid
.008 reaction time. Josh Johnson, of Belfield, ND,
sent number one qualifier, Kevin Carroll, of Pierre, to the
trailer in round one. Johnson would go on to meet
Harry in the quarters, with the Fernery driver, taking the
match on a better reaction time.
Schaun Schnathorst, in only his third full weekend of Coca
Cola Dakota Motor Sports LLC Bike competition, took the win
over 2010 Bike Champion, Charles Snyder, of Selfridge, ND.
Snyder tossed away his chance for the trophy on a red light,
after qualifying number one. Schnathorst, a seasoned
veteran in the Super Pro / Super Comp ranks, in his rear
engine dragster, has recently acquired his '06 Harley
Davidson Destroyer drag bike.
Travis Falcon, of Pierre, coming from the middle of the
qualifying bracket, defeated number one qualifier, Karen
England, of Pierre, in the Coca Cola Sportsman final.
Jeri Vines, of Eagle Butte, had the quickest reaction time
of the class, with a great .008 in the first round
against Cliff Hickey, of Chamberlain. Vines worked her
way through the field to meet up with Falcon in the semis.
England defeated Mike Haraldson, of Pierre in the other semi
final match.
The Battle of Gettysburg was recreated in the Coca Cola
Street Trophy final. Duane Soper and Alan Vetter,
cross town rivals, faced off, with number two qualifier
Vetter taking the bragging rights back to Gettysburg.
Soper claimed the number one qualifying slot. The big
winner was Ford, as both drivers are dyed in the wool Blue
Oval fanatics.
In another Blue Oval final, Stephanie Holm, of Pierre, and
Toni Vetter, of Gettysburg, met in the Coca Cola Snap On
final. Holm, driving her '73 Maverick, claimed a
margin of victory by .008 seconds over Vetter's '75 Mustang
. Holm crossed the finish line just under 16 inches
ahead of Vetter. Ashley Holm lost on a red light start to
Vetter in the semis.
Carly Ellingson, of Rapid City, doubled up for the weekend,
winning the BankWest Junior Major final over Austin Mohr, of
Mitchell. Mohr turned back number one qualifier, Cody
Ryckman, of Fort Pierre, in round one. Ellingson won a
double break out semi final match against Kimberlee
Geuther, of Fort Pierre.
Noah Miller, of Fort Pierre, outran number one qualifier,
Jonathan Huse, of Onida, in the Oahe Speedway Junior Minor
final. Miller utilized a quicker reaction time to stay
ahead of the faster dialed Huse. Miller put together
the better package to take the win.
Sonnie Boke, of Gettysburg, took the Gamblers cash on a
competition bye final run when Rory Haar, of Aberdeen, was
unable to start his car following three quick rounds of
competition. Gamblers competition, open only to first
and second round non-winners, often takes its toll on
competitors and their machines with its quick round robin
competition.

The third of four Street Legal nights, at Oahe Speedway,
found Brandon Reiger,of Pierre, running the quickest ET and
fastest MPH of the evening. Reiger laid down the best
ET of the session, at 11.288 seconds and the best MPH , at
125.13, riding his '07 Suzuki GSXR. Duane Soper, of
Gettysburg, captured the best reaction time of the day,
launching his '72 Pinto just .025 seconds after the green.
Both drivers took home gift certificates from the series
sponsors, Zander Auto Parts of Pierre and
StreetSideAuto.com.
Lynn's Dakotamart Shootout Races

Lynn's Dakotamart Box Shootout winner, Randy Nygaard, of Watertown, ran
closer to his dial in, to take the win over Donnie
Durenberger, of Dayton, MN. The margin of
victory at the stripe, gave the win to Nygaard, at just over
30 inches. Durenberger, driving Bob Pratt's '68
Camaro, got around Butch Kleewein, of North Platte, NE, in
the semis with an .022 package. Number one qualifier,
Curt Humann, of Pierre, lost to Nygaard in round two.
In five rounds of competition, Nygaard's average package, the
sum of reaction time and dial in to actual elapsed time, was
.033 seconds.
Jim Hunsley, of Rapid City, popped a great .004 reaction
time in the Lynn's Dakotamart No Box Shootout, taking the
win over Eagle Butte's Tommy Dale Vines. Larry Iversen, of
Pierre, qualifying number one, with a quick .005 second
reaction time, was forced to withdraw from competition with
mechanical problems. Vines was the beneficiary of
Iversen's misfortune, drawing the competition bye into the
second round.
Brian Brady, of Pierre, sporting Lynn's Dakotamart
sponsorship, took the Trophy Shootout Title, over Jim
Jakeway, of Timber Lake. Jakeway eliminated grandson,
Ron Winterberg, also of Timber Lake, in the quarterfinals.
Ashley Holm, of Pierre, defeated number one qualifier, Duane
Soper, of Gettysburg in round one. Soper drew the red
bulb, advancing Holm to round two. Holm went on to win
a double break out bout with Charles Snyder in round two,
and drawing the bye in round three. Holm met Brady in
the semis, with Brady taking the win.

The Major Countdown to the Jam win went to first time
visitor, Caleb Kleewein, of North Platte, NE.
Kleewein met Carly Ellingson, of Rapid City, in the final.
Ellingson tossed away her chances at the starting line,
leaving just .029 seconds too early. Both drivers went
well under their dial ins, but the damage had already
been done for Ellingson, by virtue of the red bulb.
Kimberlee Geuther, number one qualifier, of Fort Pierre,
sailed through the early rounds, only to meet up with
Ellingson, in the quarterfinals, breaking out by .007
seconds at the stripe.
Kleewein brothers, Caleb and Brandon, took on each other in
a quarterfinal match, with Caleb sending his younger brother
to the trailer. 2010 Minor Countdown to the Jam
winner, Jordan Pratt, of Ostego, MN, lost to Caleb Kleewein
in the second round.
Kleewein took home $500.00 in US Savings Bonds for his
win, with Ellingson being awarded $250.00 in USSB for her
effort. Semifinal finisher, Cody Ryckman, of Fort
Pierre won a $50.00 Savings Bond
and a Gear Wrench set.
In addition, Kimberlee Geuther and Brandon Kleewein received
five gallons of VP M-1 Racing Fuel for their quarterfinal
finishes.
Twenty-three Junior Minor competitors made the first round
call for the 2011 Minor Countdown to the Jam. When the
smoke cleared, Jonathan Huse, 2010 Oahe Speedway Junior
Minor Champion, emerged as the winner. Huse
faced off against another first time visitor, Randy Lander,
of Sidney MT. Huse had the reaction time advantage and ran
over his dial, to take the win. Lander, attempting to
stay ahead of Huse at the finish broke out by .009 seconds.
2010 Minor Countdown to the Jam runner up, Kali Driscoll, of
Watertown, defeated number one qualifier, Riley Lander, of
Sidney, MT, in round two. Driscoll would meet a
similar fate in the semis, against Randy Lander.
Noah Miller, of Fort Pierre, showed younger brother, Jake
Miller, how to hit the tree, pulling off the best reaction
time of eliminations, a wicked quick .004.
Huse pocketed $500.00 in USSB for winning the class.
Lander won $250.00 and Kali Driscoll garnered a $50.00 USSB
and a Gear Wrench set
for her semi final finish. Quarterfinalists, Noah
Miller, Cody Nelson, of Williston, ND, and Willie Wilkerson,
of Plainville, KS, carted off five gallon cans of VP M-1
Racing Fuel.
A Best Reaction Time contest for first and second round
non-winners was contested, with Jordan Pratt, of Ostego, MN,
taking the winner's cash with a .030 reaction time.
Dragr Monson, of Groton, took second place and Charlee
Schumacher, of Rapid City, took third place honors.

The 2011 Junior Jam, presented by
Watertown Ford Chrysler, brought together Junior Drag Racing
League racers from North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana,
Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, and South Dakota. The
race, in it's second year of competition, is the brain child
of Scott and Jodi Driscoll, owners of Watertown Ford
Chrysler, located in Watertown SD. Driscoll's are long
time supporters of junior drag racing, fielding
a two car team for their son and daughter, Tucker and Kali.
Levi Woodring, of Holdredge, NE, survived five rounds of
competition to become the 2011 Major Junior Jam Champion.
Woodring took his number one qualifying effort all the way
to the finals. Kimberlee Geuther, of Fort Pierre,
worked her way through the field to meet up with Woodring.
Woodring had to watch Geuther leave the line first, based on
her slower dial
in. Utilizing a quicker reaction time,
and a closer to dial run, Woodring was able to chase down
Geuther, for the win. Emily Durenberger, of Dayton,
MN, matched her 2010 Major Junior Jam finish, breaking out
by only .007 seconds in her semi final match against
Woodring. Woodring also scored the best reaction
time of eliminations, .014, in his quarterfinal single. Cory
Williams, of Brainerd, MN, was close behind with a very fast
.015 reaction time, in his win over Tucker Driscoll, of
Watertown, in round two.
Woodring received $2000.00 in USSB and an Apple iPad 2 for his
win. Geuther won $1000.00 in USSB, along with an
Acer Netbook for her runner up finish. Durenberger
took $500.00 in USSB and a GearWrench set back to Minnesota.
Cory Williams and Arainna Nelson, of Williston, ND, each
received five gallons of VP M-1 Racing Fuel for their
quarterfinal finishes.
Bailey Wooley, of Lexington, NE, had to go five rounds of
tough competition to take the top spot in the 2011 Minor
Junior Jam. Wooley used a better reaction time and
closer to dial in run, to take the win over Charlee
Schumacher, of Rapid City. Wooley won the first round
over Cutter Hammersley, of Pierre, on a breakout by
Hammersley. The Nebraska driver took a double break
out win over Miranda Vines, of Eagle Butte in round two,
moving on to meet Willie Wilkerson, of Plainville, KS in
round three. Wilkerson was .023 seconds too quick at
the stripe, advancing Wooley to the semis. Schumacher
moved through the field, forcing her competitors to chase
her down in every run. Staying with a 12.89 dial in,
all the way to the quarters, crew chief and dad Randy,
changed it up a bit...dialing a 12.90 in the last two
rounds. Number one qualifier, Cody Nelson, of
Williston, ND, stayed in the hunt until the quarterfinals,
fouling away his chances against Jake Miller, of Fort Pierre.
Miller would lose to Schumacher in the semis, in a double
break out.
Wooley received an Apple iPad 2, and $1000.00 in USSB for
her win. Schumacher was the recipient of $500.00 in
USSB and an Acer Netbook. Jake Miller walked away with
a $250.00 USSB and a GearWrench set for his semi final
finish. In addition, quarter finalists, Cody Nelson,
Willie Wilkerson, and Riley Lander, of Sidney, MT
received 5 gallon cans of VP M-1 Racing Fuel.

2011 National Dragster Challenge

Oahe Speedway had contested four of ten
scheduled 2011 Coca Cola Points Races prior to last weekend.
Weather wreaked havoc on early season racing, forcing
scheduling a points race for the National Dragster Challenge
date. Oahe Speedway points classes are normally run on
the NDC date, but has been run as a non points day in the
past. Points race #1 was rescheduled for this past
weekend from its May 1 rain out date.
2010 Coca Cola Super Pro defending champion, Curt Humann, of
Pierre, took the class on Sunday. Toby Giese, of
Kandiyohi, MN, returning to the Speedway for the first time
since 2005, made the last minute decision to head west late
on Saturday night along with fellow bike rider, Jason
Clampitt, of Lino Lakes, MN. Both riders entered Super
Pro competition, with Clampitt losing to number one
qualifier, Terry Henrikson, of Rapid City, in the first
round. Giese worked his way through the field meeting
up with Humann in the final. Both finalists broke out,
with Humann finishing closer to his dial in. Humann
collected his second Wally on Sunday, a partner for his 2010
Oahe Speedway "King of the Track" trophy.
Todd Casper, of Lake Preston, won his first Wally, taking
the Coca Cola Pro title, over number one qualifier, Tommy
Dale Vines, of Eagle Butte. Vines left the beams
before the third amber, affording Casper the win.
Vines attained the only perfect light of the weekend in
qualifying. Casper ran only .007 off his dial in for his
semi final single.
Coca Cola Dakota Motor Sports LLC Bike finals paired off
Toby Giese and Jason Clampitt, with Giese taking the win.
Giese picked up a .019 reaction time advantage at the
start and ran closer to his dial to take a Wally back to
Minnesota. Giese defeated 2010 Coca Cola Dakota
Motor Spots LLC Bike champion, Charles Snyder, of Selfridge,
ND, in round one. Number one qualifier, Don Gurnon, of
Huron, lost to Giese in round two, breaking out at the
finish line. Clampitt advanced from the semis
when Schaun Schnathorst, of Huron left a bit too soon.
Karen England and Ann Hirsch, both of Pierre, squared
off in the Coca Cola Sportsman final, with England winning
at the staring line when Hirsch redlit. Hirsch had
qualified number one and had one of the best reaction times
, .004, in the semis, against
Taryn Colson. Daniel Smith, Grand Forks,
ND, scored a perfect reaction time in round one.
England ended Smiths' s run toward the Wally in the
quarterfinals. The Sportsman Wally is England's first.
Ann Hirsch won her first Wally as Oahe Speedway's
2009 King of the Track.
Robert Kuntz, of Thompson, ND, returned to Oahe Speedway
intent on winning a Wally, and did one better than his
2009 runner up finish. Kuntz defeated current Coca Cola
Street Trophy Points leader, Duane Soper, of Gettysburg.
Kuntz, running his '05 Hemi powered Chrysler 300C, took the
Wally on a double break out finish. Soper defeated number
one qualifier, Ron Winterberg, of Timber Lake, in the semis.
Snap On High School finals came down to Ashley Holm and
James Morris, both of Pierre. Morris, Coca Cola
BankWest Junior Dragster Champion in 2007, 2009 and 2010 at
the Speedway, added another Wally to the Morris family
trophy case. James now joins older siblings, Carl and
Carrie, as Wally winners. Holm qualified number one in
the class.
Carly Ellingson, of Rapid City, won the
Juniors Gamblers race over Alyssa Oberlander, of Box Elder.

Street legal racing is open to any
licensed, street legal vehicle. All drivers must
hold a valid drivers license and have an approved helmet.

No sandals will
be allowed.
Racer's gate will open at 5pm... with
on track action starting at 6pm until dark.
Zander Auto Parts and Machine Shop, of Pierre, will once
again offer $50.00 merchandise certificates for the lowest
ET, Fastest MPH, and Best Reaction Time of the
evening.
StreetSideAuto.com will offer $25.00 merchandise
certificates for the same accomplishments. In
addition, they will offer discounts on Mickey Thompson tires
to all competitors.

Shootouts on Saturday. The Major division will
pay $500.00 in US Savings Bonds to win, with a $250.00 Savings
Bond going to the runner-up. The semifinalists will
each receive $50.00 Savings Bonds. The Speedway will award 5 gallons of VP M-1 fuel to the
quarterfinals non-winners.
The Minor division will race for $500.00 in US Savings Bonds
to win, with $250.00 Savings Bond going to the runner-up.

The second annual Junior Jam,
presented by Watertown Ford Chrysler, will bring in the best
of the region's Junior Drag racers to compete for $7500.00
in US Savings Bonds and additional prizes. The winner
of Sunday's Junior Major Division will walk away with
$2000.00 jn US Savings Bonds, along with an Apple Ipad.
The runner up, will receive $1000.00 in Savings Bonds, and
an iPod , with the semifinalists walking away with
$500.00 in Savings Bonds,
The Speedway will award 5 gallons of VP M-1
fuel to the quarterfinals non-winners.
Payouts in the Minor Division are set at $1000.00 in USSB to
win, along with an Apple Ipad. The runner up will receive

awarded to the National
event winners in NHRA
professional categories.

racing will be a make up for
Coca Cola points Race #2, in
all classes with the
exception of Junior Dragster

Weekend at Oahe Speedway

Midsummer heat
finally showed up for a great weekend of racing at Oahe
Speedway. With temperatures in the upper 90's and heat
indexes soaring nearly ten degrees higher, the Speedway
finally got a full race weekend in, without even the
slightest threat of rain.
Saturday
Eddies Truck Center Shootouts
Terry Henrikson, of Rapid City, qualified number one, and
took that momentum to the Box Shootout final. Chad
Uhrig, of Pierre, coming from the bottom of the field, faced
off against Henrikson, with Henrikson nailing the tree with
a great .005 reaction time. In the double breakout
final, Henrikson ran
closer to his
dial, to take the win, by just over 32 inches, at the
stripe.
No Box winner,
James Morris, of Pierre, drove his '71 Cheyenne, to victory
over Callie Martin, of Pierre. Martin, qualified
number one
in her '69
Chevelle. Martin, in her second year of competition at
the Speedway, defeated car owner and crew chief, Larry
Iversen in round one.
Jay Tjeerdsma, of
Springfield, made the commute pay off, with a win in the
Trophy Shootout class on Saturday. Tjeerdsma met Duane
Soper, of Gettysburg, pulling a quick .013 reaction time,
off the line, to defeat Soper. In fact, Tjeerdsma had
the two best reaction times of eliminations, with another
.013 against Doug Percy, of Winner, in round three.
Brian Brady, of Pierre, was number one qualifier,
lasting until his semifinal paring against Soper.
Number one
qualifier, Carly Ellingson, of Rapid City, and number two
qualifier, Jonathan Geuther, of Fort Pierre, met in the
Junior Shootout final. Geuther took the win at the
start, when Ellingson drew the red bulb.
Bike/Sled Run for the Money
Diesel Services
Inc, of Huron, Ray's Garage and Over Head Door, both of
Pierre, joined forces to present the first annual Bike/Drag
Sled Run for the Money
Tim Sullivan, of
Sioux Falls, riding a '00 CBR won the Street Bike final,
over Roger Valanda, of Fort Yates, ND, on his '90
Kawasaki. Both riders went well under their respective
dial ins. Dial in selection was especially challenging
in the afternoon heat. Karen England, running her '03
Silverwing, qualified number one. Valandra eliminated
England, in the first round.
Chris Boom, the lone drag sled competitor, outlasted all
others, to take the Run for the Money Drag Bike/Sled
class win. Boom, of Pierre, running his Arctic Cat ZR
snowmobile, defeated Don Gurnon, of Huron, on a quicker
reaction time. First time visitor, and number one
qualifier, Brad Schoenberg, of Mohall, ND, withdrew from
competition, with mechanical difficulties, following
qualifying.
MidWest Wild Bunch Qualifying
The highlight of the three rounds of MidWest Wild Bunch
qualifying had to be the stellar runs by Clif Bakx, of
Grunthal MB, CAN. Bakx reset the Oahe Speedway track
mile per hour record during first round qualifying, at
205.47, eclipsing the record set last year by Les Feist, of
Clearwater, MN. Feist held the record at 203.02 mph.
Bakx returned for second round qualifying and took the marks
to 209.59 mph, and pushing the ET record down to 6.480.
Both marks were the fastest and quickest ever recorded at
the "Dam Fast Track". The "Wild Cow Racing"
driver stated that the track had more to offer, and felt
that he had a chance to improve on his performance on

Points Race #7
Chad Uhrig, coming off a runner
up finish in the Eddie's Truck Center Box Shootout, on
Saturday, bettered his finish in the Coca Cola Super Pro
final. Rick Meier, of Rapid City, leaving first
on the slower dial in, with a bit slower
reaction time, could not hold off Uhrig at the stripe.
Uhrig trailered number one qualifier, Joe Wolf, of Pierre,
in the first round. Through four rounds of
competition, Uhrig's worst package (E.T.to dial in
difference, plus reaction time), was .057 seconds in the
final, averaging .030 second for the day. Wolf topped
the day with a best .001 reaction time and a 185.22 mph pass
in qualifying.
Paul Berger, of Pierre, put
recent mechanical woes behind, and took the Coca Cola Pro
final. Randy Hirsh, of Pierre, broke out in the final
against Berger. Hirsch ran only .007 off his dial in,
in his quarterfinal match up against Perry DePoy, of Eagle
Butte. Berger put away number one qualifier, Steve
Boke, of Gettysburg in the semis.
Chris Boom, of Pierre, made it
two-for-two on the weekend, winning the Coca Cola
Dakota Motor Sports LLC points race. Number one
qualifier, Schaun Schnathorst, breaking in his newly
acquired, '06 Harley Davidson Screamin' Eagle Destroyer,
lost to Boom on a red light in
the final.
Jay Tjeerdsma, of Springfield,
doubled up, after winning the Eddie's Truck Center
Shootout, on Saturday, came
back on Sunday to grab Coca Cola Pro honors. Tjeerdsma
met number one qualifier, Jeri Vines, in the final. In
the double breakout final, Vines went .009 under her dial
in, with Tjeerdsma only going .001 under his dial. The
Speedway saw its first racer from South Carolina, Pete
Glaser, driving Jim Jakeway's '79 Cutlass, Glaser is
in the area visiting family in Timber Lake.
Duane Soper, of Gettysburg, won
the Coca Cola Street Trophy final, over Scott Romero, of
Kadoka. Romero qualifying number one, defeated Ron
Winterberg, of Timber Lake, in a double breakout, in round
one.
James Morris and Stephanie
Holm, both of Pierre, and 2011 Riggs High School graduates,
squared off in the Coca Cola Snap On High School finals.
Both competitors have met countless times over the past few
years, having both run in the Junior Drag Racing League
class. Morris took the win over Holm in the final.
Morris took out number one
qualifier, Toni Vetter, of Gettysburg in the semis.
Carly Ellingson put her
Saturday red light final experience behind, and took
the Coca Cola BankWest Junior Major trophy back to Rapid
City. Ellingson had qualified number one and defeated
number two qualifier, Cody Ryckman, in the final.
Ellingson had two of the quickest reaction times of the
day, .003 in qualifying 002 in her first round bye.

got back on track, winning the
class on a red light by Noah Miller, of Fort Pierre.
Huse had qualified number one,
with a great .004 reaction time.
Jonathan Geuther, of Fort
Pierre, won the Junior Gamblers race, over Zach Zebroski, of
Pierre.

Bunch
Bill Fuchs, of Paynesville, MN,
driving his '97 Camaro bodied, blown alcohol funny car,
powered by a 1300 hp Donovan Chrysler 500 c.i. motor, defeated
Canadian Wally Stelmach in the final. Stelmach, from
Winnipeg, MB, clicked off at the 1000' mark and coasted
through the lights. Fuchs, on the other hand, kept his
boot on the throttle to take the win, 7.503 seconds at
174.85 mph. Fuchs had earlier recorded the fastest
alcohol funny car times, ever, at Oahe Speedway.
The MN driver ran 7.316
seconds at 186.18 mph, in Sunday's qualifying effort.
Another
Record Breaking Run from Wild Cow Racing Team
Cliff Bakx, Wild Cow Racing
Clif Bakx came back, in Sunday's
lone qualifying effort, posting a record setting 6.454 E.T.
, resetting the record from
Saturday, with an "off-pace"
196.59 pass.
Bakx turned up the wick,
booting his Brad Anderson motored BB to a record shattering
6.38 second, 214.33 mph pass. losing to Todd Bruce, of
Horace, ND. in the first round, on a double breakout
pairing. At a trap speed of 214.33 mph, Bakx was
travelling 314 feet per second, the length of a football
field.
While there are track records around the
country that are much lower and quicker, this is a (quarter)milestone
for Oahe Speedway, South Dakota's only NHRA sanctioned
quarter mile drag strip.

Clif Bakx reset both ends of
the Oahe Speedway
track records, on Sunday, less than 24 hours after he snared
the new track markers. The new mile per hour
record, 214.33 was set in the heat of the day, on Sunday
along with the et record, 6.380.

Clif Bakx made good on his promise to return to Oahe
Speedway, and set both the mile per hour and elapsed time
records. Bakx has driven all the way from Grunthal,
MB, Canada, twice in the past two years, only to suffer
mechanical difficulties, in both attempts. He was not
to be denied on Saturday, pushing the MPH record to 209.59
miles per hour, and the ET record down to 6.480 seconds, in
the quarter mile. Bakx has held the ET record,
at 6.529, since July 2008. The previous speed record,
203.02 miles per hour, was set last July, by Les Feist,
of Clearwater, MN.

The MidWest Wild Bunch
Returns
The MidWest
Wild Bunch returns to Oahe Speedway for the 6th time.
This group of racers always puts on a great show for drag
racing fans. Anything from a blown alcohol funny car
to a turbocharged, to the max, 8-second Ford Probe
could be in competition. The current track speed
record, 203.02 mph, could be in jeopardy this coming
weekend. Les Feist, of Clearwater, MN, set the top
speed at last years event. Another Wild Bunch
contender. Rick Schmidt, of Dickinson, ND, set the ET and
MPH records for door cars, with an ET of 7.276
seconds, at 187.93 MPH, back in 2008. Both records are
set to fall at any time this weekend.

The seventh Coca Cola Points
race of the season will be contested on Sunday.
the seventh points race of the 2011 season, this race will
actually be only the fourth of the ten scheduled points
races for 2011 points chase. The first points race,
scheduled for May 1, was cancelled due to weather, and will
be run on July 31. Weather cancelled the 3rd and 4th Points
Races over Memorial day weekend.
Weather finally cooperated in
June 12, and we were able to complete Points race #5.

July 2, 2011
Curt Humann, of Pierre, topped the Box Shootout field, on
Saturday. Snaring a better reaction time and closer to
dial in run, Humann chased down Dale Garber, of Pierre, for
the win. Garber defeated number one qualifier,
Chad Uhrig, of Pierre, when Uhrig drew the red bulb in the
semis. Dan Mohr, of Mitchell, met Humann, in the
other semi match, with Mohr breaking out at the stripe.
Both drivers had identical .048 reaction times. Uhrig
qualified number one in the field, with a perfect reaction
time.
A 32 car No Box field forced Randy Hirsch, of Pierre, and
Steve Boke, of Gettysburg to be on their game through five
rounds of competition. Hirsch capped off the day, with
a final round win. The double break out final saw
Hirsh run closer to his dial in. Stan Kopejtka, of
Atkinson, NE, took his '87 Charger to number one qualifying
honors and lasted until the semis, breaking out in the
process. Kopejtka got off the line with a near perfect
light, .001 reaction time, but tried a little too hard to
stay ahead of the hard charging Hirsch.
Travis Olson, of Bath, forced Brian Brady, of Pierre, to
chase him down in the Trophy Shootout final. Brady
tried just a bit too hard, breaking out at the stripe.
Rookie Karen Hines, of Pierre, took her first number one
qualifying slot to the second round, losing to Jim Jakeway,
of Timber Lake, on a breakout.
Fort Pierre's Kimberlee Geuther, faced off against Cody
Ryckman, also of Fort Pierre, in the Junior Shootout final.
Geuther had the win at the starting line when Ryckman left
too soon. Number one qualifier, Carly Ellingson, of
Rapid City, suffered a similar fate against Ryckman, in the
semis. Geuther defeated brother Jonathan, in the other
semi final match.
Coca Cola Points Race #6
July 3, 2011
Coca Cola Points Race #6, actually only the 3rd points race
contested in 2011, was run under hot, humid conditions, on
Sunday. Three of the six scheduled Coca Cola
Points races of the season have been plagued by poor weather
conditions.

Rick Meier, of Rapid City, qualified number one
and went on to defeat Joe Wolf, of Pierre, in the Coca Cola
Super Pro final. Wolf saved his worst reaction time,
of the day, for the final, and could not make up the
difference over Meier. Meier qualified number one,
with a .003 reaction time, and duplicated the same time in
his first round single. Wolf posted the top speed of
the day, 186.29, in the second round, and consistent
ET's ranging from 7.342 to 7.350 throughout eliminations.
Larry Iversen, of Pierre, out ran the Coca Cola Pro field,
defeating Paul Berger, of Pierre, in the final. Berger
tossed away the win, red lighting against Iversen.
Both drivers, coming from the middle of the field,
took advantage of better reaction times, to advance to the
final. Todd Herman, of Presho, qualified number one,
met
Iversen in round one, with Iversen pulling off a rapid .010
reaction time, to take the win.
The Coca Cola Dakota Motor Sports LLC bike final, saw number
one qualifier, David Tibert, of Grand Forks, ND, take on
Charles Snyder, of Selfridge, ND. The all NoDak final
found 2010 Bike Champion, Snyder, taking the win. Will
Grothe, of O'Neil, NE, brought his '01 Arctic Cat back
to the speedway for the weekend. Ironically, Grothe
met up with Chris Boom, of Pierre, in the first round.
Grothe topped his sled's former owner, with a closer to dial
in run, in the first round.
Another 2010 class champion, Coca Cola Sportsman's Travis
Falcon, of Pierre, emerged victorious on Sunday.
Falcon chased down Mike Haraldson, of Pierre, in the final.
Jon Dallman, of Aberdeen, qualified number one,
losing to Doug Percy, of Winner, in the first round.
Percy advanced to the 4th round, before losing to
Haraldson.
Ron Winterberg, of Timber Lake, took the winners
trophy home, besting Alex Lindholm, in the Coca Cola Street
Trophy final. Pat Hardinger, of Aberdeen,
qualified number one, but was a bit over anxious at the
starting line, leaving just .003 seconds too soon against
Winterberg, in round one.
James Morris and Ashley Holm, both of Pierre, having moved
up to door cars, from the Junior Dragster ranks, met in the
Coca Cola Snap on High School final, with Morris taking the
win. Stephanie Holm, of Pierre, qualified number one,
and lost to sister, Ashley, in the semis.
Alyssa Oberlander, of Box Elder, took the Coca Cola BankWest
Junior Major win, when Austin Mohr, of Mitchell, was unable
to make it to the starting line. Mohr suffered
mechanical difficulties in his '10 JR Race Cars junior
dragster, in the staging lanes. Oberlander defeated
fellow West River driver and number one qualifier, Jordann
Dargatz, of Nemo, in the second round.
Another 2010 Champion, Jonathan Huse, of Onida, emerged atop
the Coca Cola Oahe Speedway Junior Minor field.
Huse defeated Zach Zebroski, of Pierre. Kali Driscoll,
of Watertown, qualified number one, and met up with
Zebroski, in round two. Driscoll went farter under her
index, breaking out by a larger margin to Zebroski.
Fort Pierre twin brothers, Alec and Jake Miller, squared off
the Junior Gamblers final, with Jake taking the win.
Dan Mohr, of Mitchell, won the Gamblers race, defeating Jim
Hunsley, of Rapid City.

following schedule has been set up for the balance of the
2011 Coca Cola Points Series.
Sunday, July 31, will be the make up for
Points Race #1, rescheduled from
May 1.
This is also the date for our 2011 National Dragster
Challenge.
Points races for all classes, except the Junior classes,
will be run. "Wally" trophies will be awarded to class
winners in Super Pro, Pro, Bike, Sportsman, Street Trophy
and High School.
We will be running the 2nd Annual Junior Jam on Sunday, and
will not be running points races for BankWest
Junior Major or Oahe Speedway Junior Minor Points Races that day.
Saturday, September 3, make up for
Points Race #3, from May 29. All classes
will be run. Junior Major and Minors will also
compete for the 2011 Junior Drag Racing League Challenge,
with a "Wally" trophy being awarded to each class winner.
Saturday, September 24, BankWest
Junior Major and Oahe Speedway Junior Minor Points
Race #3, from May 29, will be run. This Saturday,
during the National Open, we will run the Shootouts, Stock
Super Stock Combo, and Super Group Shootout for the big
cars.
Sunday, September 25, All classes will
be run, making up Points Race #4, from May 30.
In addition, NHRA classes will be contested in the 6th
Annual Midwest Cooperatives/Cenex Lubricants National Open.
Our 2011 Coca Cola Points Champions will be determined on
September 25th.
With all the above having been said, we will set our 2011 ET
Finals team selection following Labor Day Weekend. As
in the past, we are allowed to take a team of 36 to
Brainerd, plus 4 High School racers, for a total of 40.
We will fill the roster from the top points earners in the 4
categories. Once we work through each category, we will then
back fill, in order to take a full team, For example,
should we have only 30 slots filled after we go through the
categories, we can then go back and add additional racers in
any of the 4 classes to fill the team. Should you have

Milton Morris, Oahe Speedway owner, and founder of Morris,
Inc, took on a project in late May, in an attempt to save
the communities of Pierre and Fort Pierre, from the ravages
of flood waters being released from the Oahe Dam.
Morris Incorporated, spearheaded a monumental levee building
project, completed in 8 days, mobilizing nearly 140 trucks,
40-50 loaders, dozers, and excavators, over 450 employees,
moving almost 150,000 cubic yards of material,
and placing that material on 4.5 miles of levees, in the
Pierre-Fort Pierre area, with no on-the-job injuries.
The dam, located 6 miles upstream, from Pierre and
Fort Pierre, managed by the US Corps of Engineers, began
releasing unprecedented amounts of water in early June.
The inflows from the Upper Missouri River basin have pushed
pool elevations, on Lake Oahe, to record levels, forcing the
Corps to increase water releases to 150,00 cubic feet per
second (CFS) from the outlet works at the dam. In
relative terms, normal flow over Niagara Falls only
amounts to 100,000 CFS .

"Super Goob" threw down the gauntlet, on Sunday afternoon,
posting a personal best Et and MPH, in his 2008
Undercover RED, powered by a 582 CI, 1198 HP,
big block Chevy. Otherwise known as Dale Garber, of
Pierre, the Super Comp/Super Pro driver, laid down a
blistering 199.24 pass, with a 6.825 second ET.
The pass, possibly the fifth or sixth quickest, in the
speedway's 7th year of competition, is just a bit less than
4 MPH slower than the current record held by Les Feist, of
Clearwater, MN. Feist set the track record, last
July, at 203.02MPH. Clif Bakx, of Grunthal, MB,
Canada, holds the ET record, 6.529, set in July of 2009.

Friday's Street Legal action, sponsored by Zander Auto Parts
and Street SideAuto.com, started off a busy weekend at Oahe
Speedway. Following a weather cancellation of the
first scheduled Street Legal event, on May 27, the skies
cleared in time to get in a little racing, for a change.
Nouman Saleem, of Pierre, driving his twin-turboed, '85
Corvette, captured the best ET and Top MPH of the evening,
stopping the clocks at 11.045 seconds and hitting 140,25 MPH
in the quarter mile.
Adam Armstrong, of Pierre, launched his '08 F350 pickup off
the starting line in .025 seconds to take the Best
Reaction Time of the evening award.
The next Zander/StreetSideAuto.com Street Legal event will
be held on July 29.

The weather man finally gave us a beautiful day for racing
and the racers, in attendance, put on a great show in all
categories.
Box Shootout winner, David Rae, of Gillette, WY, took
on Chad Uhrig, of Pierre, winning on a better reaction time.
Rae ran .37 second off his dial in; Uhrig was very close, at
.38 off his dial, with the difference coming at the starting
line, Rae's reaction time, .035 to Uhrig's losing .058.
Curt Humann, of Pierre, was the number one qualifier, with a
perfect light, drawing the bye, in the first round, and
losing to Rae, on a slower reaction time, in the second
round. The top five qualifiers were all within
.005 seconds. Uhrig qualified second with a .001
reaction time, along with Dale Garber, of Pierre at .001,
Dan Mohr, of Mitchell at .002 and Rick Meier, of Rapid City,
at .005.
No Box Shootout final saw Stan "Butch" Monson, of Groton,
take on Cal Belden, of Aberdeen, with the Groton racer
taking the win. Monson chased down Belden, forcing
Belden to break out by .003 seconds, at the finish line.
Monson took the advantage, at the starting line, grabbing a
better reaction time. Randy Hirsch, of Pierre, tossed
away his number one qualifying position, on a red light ,at
the starting line.
Duane Soper, of Gettysburg, took the Trophy Shootout top
spot, besting Stephanie Holm, of Pierre,. Soper
utilized a better reaction time and ran only .004 off his
dial in, to take the win. Number one qualifier, Jay
Tjeerdsma, of Springfield, had the bye in the first round,
meeting up with Soper, in the second round. Tjeerdsma
was a bit to quick on the tree, drawing the red light
against Soper. The "Twisted Sisters" team met in the
semifinal round with Ashley Holm, red lighting against
sister, Stephanie.
West met East in the Junior Shootout final, with Carly
Ellingson, of Rapid City, turning back Kali Driscoll, of
Watertown. Ellingson used a better reaction time to
chase down Driscoll at the finish line. Becki Fuchs,
of Bowman, ND, qualified number one, and lasted until
the semis, meeting Driscoll, and breaking out by just .004
seconds at the stripe.
Matt Semmler, Mayor of Highmore, returned to the speedway to
defend his 2009 and 2010 championships, in the 2011 Mayors
Challenge. He was not to be denied, as he took his
third championship, in a row, defeating, Sonnie Boke,
representing Gettysburg, in the final.
Semmler also qualified number one, in his 2011 Ford Edge,
sponsored by Jan Busse Ford, of Highmore. Pierre
Mayor, Laurie Gill and Fort Pierre Mayor, Sam Tidball,
respectfully declined invitations, citing their duties in
the current flooding situations, in the Pierre-Fort
Pierre area. Both mayors have enthusiastically
supported the race, in the past.

Billed as Coca Cola Points Race #5, Sunday's race was
actually only the second points race contested in the 2011
season, so far. Weather has postponed the first, third
and fourth points races, until later in the season.
Coca Cola Super Pro victor, Rick Meier, of Rapid City, had
to outrun fellow Rapid City resident, Terry Henrikson,
in the final. Meier took the contest on a better
reaction time, as both drivers ran .028 off their dial ins,
with the .018 difference in reaction time telling the tale.
The margin of victory, at the stripe, gave the win to Meier,
by 4.3 feet. Jason Ehlers, of Pierre, qualified
number one, meeting up with Meier, in the quarterfinals, red
lighting away his chance of advancing.
Joe Harry, of Ferney, took his first win of the season, in
Coca Cola Pro action. Darcy Madsen, of Rapid City,
fouled away his chances at the starting line, in the final
against Harry. Number one qualifier, Larry
Iversen, of Pierre, defeated Fort Mohave, AZ's Jay
Waxler, in the quarter's. Waxler, taking over driver's
duties for dad, Fred, appeared right at home, pulling the
front wheels on every pass, in their '70 Duster. Iversen
lost to Harry in the semis.
Chris Boom, of Pierre, won the Dakota Motor Sports LLC
final, over Rob Klinger, of Rapid City. Boom took the
win, when Klinger broke out in the final. Boom's
better reaction time forced Klinger to push his 2010 Ninja
ZX a bit too quick, breaking out at the finish line.
Ken Bryant, of Ethan, number one qualifier, lost a double
break out tilt, in the semis against Boom.
Number one qualifying Ann Hirsch, of Pierre, emerged
victorious, in the Coca Cola Sportsman final, over Jay
Tjeerdsma, of Springfield. Tjeerdsma,
coming off a number one qualifying slot, in the No Box
Shootout, on Saturday, drew the bye in the semis.
Hirsch defeated Karen England, of Pierre, in the other
semifinal match, to advance to the final. Hirsch
defeated all opponents, with a better reaction time, in all
five rounds of competition.
Duane Soper, coming off a Trophy Shootout win on Saturday,
took his '72 Pinto to the victory over Ron Winterberg, of
Timber Lake in the Coca Cola Street Trophy
class. Winterberg qualified number one, with a perfect
light.
Coca Cola Snap On High School winner Ashley Holm, of Pierre,
won at the starting line, when Toni Vetter, of Gettysburg,
drew the red bulb. Vetter defeated number one
qualifier, and 2010 Coca Cola High School champion, Taryn
Colson, of Blunt, in semifinals.
Carly Ellingson, of Rapid City, is three for four, in final
round appearances, against Austin Mohr, of Mitchell.
Ellingson, Junior Shootout winner, on Saturday, continued
her domination of the class, taking the Coca Cola BankWest
Junior Major win, on Sunday over Mohr, who broke out at the
finish line. Ellingson qualified number one in the
class.
Coca Cola Oahe Speedway Junior Minor winner, Jonathan
Geuther, of Fort Pierre,
won the final when Kali Driscoll, of Watertown, was
forced to chase him down, breaking out, in the process.
Driscoll, taking her second runner-up position, of the
weekend, defeated Cutter Hammersley, of Pierre, in the
semis. Geuther trailered, Hunter Monson, number
one qualifier, in the first round. Monson is believed
to be youngest driver to pull off a perfect light at Oahe
Speedway. Monson
joins the 2011 motorraceimages.com Perfect Light
competition, only the fifth Junior Dragster driver
recognized, in the 4 year old competition.
Jim Jakeway, of Timber Lake, singled to the Oahe Speedway No
Box Half Track victory, when Steve Pfeifer, of McLaughlin,
was unable to answer the call to the line. Pfeiffer,
making a rare appearance, in his immaculate '70 Chevelle,
suffered mechanical problems, forcing withdrawal from
competition.

fight the good fight, the water is rising, and we will not
know the full impact of the situation for some time.
All our racing families, in harm's way, are safe and
prepared for the coming weeks. We have done all we can

After careful consideration, we have decided to cancel
today's racing program. We had hoped that the weather
would improve and that we would be able to race today.
Forecast temperatures and continued mist and showers are
such that we cannot safely run cars down the track.
Weather for Sunday is forecast to be much better, with
no precipitation and sunny weather, in the 60's.
We do plan to start at 9am with qualifying and eliminations
at 1pm.

68, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011, in Mitchell,
SD.
Long, noted
Mitchell businessman, and fellow drag racer, oversaw the
creation and development of the upper Midwest's premier
transmission overhaul shop, Dale's A1 Transmission, in
Mitchell., SD. He is survived by three sons,
Daren (Lisa),
Devon (Ann), and Dustin Long, all of Mitchell;
and one daughter, Dacie Long, of Chamberlain; grandchildren,
Cole, Carter, Kate, Van, Penn and Tate and his former wife,
Donna Long, of Mitchell.
Visitation
will be Tuesday, May 3, from 6pm-8pm, at
Wesleyan
Church, 601 N Sanborn, In Mitchell.

We WILL NOT run on Saturday, April 30,
due forecast weather.
We WILL still hold our NHRA Chassis
Certification and ATI Inspections at the Morris
Building, in Fort Pierre, on Saturday, April 30,
starting at 9am and running until mid afternoon. If
you need directions to the shop, please call...605 223 9885.
The Morris Building is located behind the Speedway office,
at 1704 N Waldron, just off SD Hwy 14/34 West in Fort
Pierre.
We plan to run TEST AND TUNE ONLY, on Sunday, May
1, starting at 1pm, at the track.
Next scheduled
racing action, at the track will be on May 14-15.
We will have our first 2011
Fast Track Show, live from the Longbranch,
in downtown Pierre, this evening, staring at 6pm.
If you cannot make it to the Longbranch, please tune in on KCCR 1240AM.
The scheduled Coca Cola Points race will be run on July 31.

At this time, we still hope to
run this weekend. The weather will be the determining
factor. Saturday's forecast calls for the possibility
of showers and temps in the high 40's/low 50's. With
cool track temperatures, we anticipate running only test and
tune on Saturday.
Tim Toso is still scheduled
to do Chassis Certification on Saturday and possibly Sunday,
if needed. In the event that we do not race on
Saturday, we will still hold our Chassis Certification/ATI
inspection. We will determine the location later this
week.
Sunday's Coca Cola Points Race
#1 will be run only if the weather conditions are conducive
for running all classes. In the event we cannot run on
Sunday, we have a contingency plan to run the "makeup' race
on July 31, in conjunction with the National Dragster
Challenge, traditionally a non-points race day. More
details will be posted, as needed.
Once again,
we will make a final decision on the weekend's schedule on
Thursday morning.

Tim Toso, NHRA Chassis Inspector from West Central Division 5, will be
at the track on Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm for chassis
certification No appointment is needed to have your
chassis inspected,
simply show up at the track in between
these times and visit the Tech Inspection area.
Test & Tune on Saturday
Make an unlimited number of passes between 1:00 pm and 5:00
pm on Saturday for only $30.
Shootout Races on Sunday

At this time, we will plan to do the
inspections at the track, along with the planned shootouts

VP Racing Fuels will be
available at Oahe Speedway. As many of you know, Jeff
Friman, Friman Oil and Gas of Pierre, will no longer handle
VP Fuels. Jeff has assisted in the transition of the
fuel vending to Oahe Speedway. The Speedway will
continue to offer:
M-1, VP110, VP113, VP C11, C12 and C14.
We will offer full drum (54 Gallon) pricing, as well as per gallon
pricing at the track.
We are planning to place our
first order on Monday, April 11. If there is any
interest ion purchasing drums, please let us know, at the

Trujillo Takes Super Gas R/U
at
Las Vegas

Lance Trujillo, of Gillettte,
WY, and regular competitor
at Oahe Speedway, took the
Super Gas runner up position at the recently completed NHRA
Division 7 Lucas Oil Division Racing Series event, in Las
Vegas.
Trujillo ran his '62 Corvette
roadster to six winning rounds, before meeting up with
Travis Balough. of Long Beach CA, in the final.
Balough, first off the line, with a quick .017 reaction
time, forced Trujillo to chase him to the stripe.
Trujillo's .045 reaction time, in the heads up race, forced
him to try to make up the difference on the track, breaking
out by .026 at the finish line. Balough pushed his '63
Corvette roadster under the 10.05 dial in by only .004
seconds, to take the win.
Trujillo will run the Summit
Racing.com Nationals, in Las Vegas, this coming weekend,
attempting to win his second Super Gas national event title
in less than a year. His first national event win came last
August, at the Lucas Oil Nationals, in Brainerd, MN.

Oahe
Speedway will have a presence at two trade shows this
weekend.
We will
have a booth at the 39th Annual KCCR Farm, Home and Sports
show. The show is the longest running show of its
type, in Central South Dakota.
The show,
at the Ramkota River Centre, in Pierre, runs Saturday ,
9am-5pm and Sunday, 11am-4pm.
The
Speedway will also appear at the 12th Annual Counts of
the Cobblestone Car Show
at the
Rushmore Civic Center, in Rapid City. Show times are
Friday, 5pm-10pm, Saturday, 10am-10pm, and Sunday, 10am-4pm

Oahe Speedway attended the 3rd
annual "Winterfest of Wheels", in Sioux Falls, this past
weekend. The auto show, featuring some of the
best hot rods and customs in the Upper Midwest, benefits the
"Cure Kids Cancer" program at Sanford Health.
As a special feature for the
event, noted AA/FC driver, Ron Capps, made a special
appearance on Saturday evening. Capps signed
autographs and toured the show floor during his visit.
NAPA Auto Parts and Oahe Speedway were major sponsors for
Capps appearance.

NAPA Auto Parts and Oahe Speedway will sponsor an appearance
by Ron Capps,
noted Don Schumacher Racing AA/Funny Car driver. Capps
will appear at "Winterfest of Wheels", Saturday,
February 12, from 5pm-7pm.
"Winterfest of Wheels" is a group of car,
motorcycle and truck enthusiasts in the Sioux Falls area
with a mission to bring unique, premier vehicles to one
location for everyone in the area to come and see, and to
help a great cause,
"Cure Kids Cancer"
"Winterfest of Wheels" will kick off on February 11, at the
Sioux Falls Convention Center, and run through Sunday, the
13th, Oahe Speedway will, once again, be a part of
this great show.
