Scheduled Changes Made after
Postponement
Posted July 28, 2006
The 2006 schedule has changed with the cancellation of the
August 12 and 13 races due to the postponement of the races
originally scheduled for July 29 and 30. On July 27,
track officials listened to the concerns of many racers and
race fans who stated that they would prefer not to race in
extremely hot conditions as they did two weeks prior.
Records were set when the temperature gage reached 117
degrees in Pierre on July 15. Temperatures of over 160
degrees were recorded on the track! Days before the
racing weekend, weather officials were again predicting
extreme heat conditions for the weekend of July 29 and 30.
On July 27, track officials postponed the races for July 29
and 30 by rescheduling them to August 5 and 6. In
addition, the races originally scheduled for August 12 and
13 are canceled.
Racers Donate to Make-A-Wish
Posted June 21, 2006
The 2nd Annual Draggin' with Hogs and Rods event concluded
on Saturday, June 18, while contributions to the Make-A-Wish
Foundation of South Dakota continue to roll in. The
dedication of this past weekend’s racing activities
to families touched by Make-A-Wish was in
conjunction with the 2nd Annual Draggin’
with Hogs and Rods event. In addition to the drag
races at Oahe Speedway, members of the Central South
Dakota Harley Owners Group rode on a poker run,
while the Street Masters Car Club showed their cars
at the track. The highlight of the day was the
opportunity for Make-A-Wish kids and their families
to ride in a car or on a bike of their choosing.
The racing action was put on hold for a short while
these families were honored with a parade on the
track. The mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation is
to grant wishes to children suffering with
life-threatening medical conditions and to enrich
the experience with hope, strength, and joy. The
Pierre Area / Central South Dakota committee of the
Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Dakota raised funds
in coordination with the Draggin’ with Hogs and Rods
through business sponsorships, a portion of proceeds
from the drag races at Oahe Speedway and the HOG
poker run, and individual contributions.
Donations to Make-A-Wish were graciously received throughout
the weekend from racers and race fans. The following
racers generously contributed their winnings to the

Haar Wins and Donates to
Make-A-Wish
Posted June 20, 2006
Taken
from Press Release written by Marlin Roseland
After winning the Butler Machinery $1,000 Shootout on
Sunday, June 19, Rory Haar gladly accepted his check from
Milton Morris. Moments later, Haar requested that his
winnings be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of South
Dakota.
Morris was taken aback by Haar’s gesture, saying
that, “this is truly what this sport is all about.”
While on a trip to Florida last year to attend a drag racing
school, Haar said that they were in the company of a group
of kids set to go on a cruise, all benefactors of wishes
granted by Make-A-Wish. Haar was moved by the kids and
their families. That chance meeting inspired Sunday’s
selfless gesture. Haar took the victory home, leaving the
check behind. The race to grant a wish had become more
important than winning a drag race.

Accepting his check, Rory Haar stands along side Milton
Morris to the left, Track Owner, and Derik Wright to the
right, Manager of the local Butler Machinery store.

the Season

This
past weekend, volunteers worked together to plant 350 trees
and tackle lots of projects in preparation for the first
weekend of racing. The trees were planted in the
general pit parking area. Although it will take a few
years
for the trees to grow and offer any shade, they are a much
added benefit to comfort of the racers. It will take
everyone's assistance to insure that the trees are
maintained properly. Please take extra precaution when
parking and walking through the pit area. To
