David Schiffner
David R. Schiffner, 51, died on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, with his family at his side.David was born on April 23, 1959, in Valley City, ND, to Ronald and Beverly (Willey) Schiffner. He attended school in Verona, ND, and he graduated from Verona High School in 1977.
David was a life-long professional truck driver, having worked for Elliot Transport Systems, Inc., for 28 years and, most recently, for Killoran Trucking in Buffalo, ND. In his 30 years of trucking, David never had an accident, and he received an award for 1 million plus accident-free miles.
David was an avid drag racer, and he won many racing awards. It was at the racetrack that he met his wife, Kimberly Compson, and they were married on January 22, 1993. On the weekends in the summer and fall, while Kim was quilting, David enjoyed teaching his son, Tanner, how to race. He then proudly watched as Tanner began winning his own drag racing awards.
David had a special place in his heart for his daughter, Mckayla. He enjoyed answering her many questions and also enjoyed teasing her on occasion. He will always be remembered by Mckayla for his great sense of humor.
David was a quiet person in the midst of a large, noisy family. Even so, he managed to squeeze in quite a few witty one-liners and offer advice when needed. He will be greatly missed.
David was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Gertrude Schiffner, and Bud and Bob Willey; his uncles, Bud Willey, Bob Willey, and John Schiffner; and his nephew, Brandon Eull.
